Getting a Start on Christmas Gifts - Handmade for Little Kids

I'd love some ideas for gifts I can make for my three girls for Christmas. I'm trying to be more economical this year (we spent a total of $300 for the girls combined last year) and still give them quality things. I am acquiring a sewing machine in the coming months. I consider myself pretty crafty but have a hard time coming up with ideas. Thanks in advance!

How to Dress Infant for Cold Weather

My daughter is 6 months old and the recent cool weather made me realize we'll need some warm outerwear for the winter months ahead. I'm wondering if other moms can tell me what is the easiest way to dress babies for cold weather. Should I get a snowsuit? What about mittens - will babies keep them on? Do you find that jackets, etc make babies too bulky for their carseats? What items are worth purchasing?

Backpacks for Preschooler

I'm pretty sold on getting a backpack from LL Bean for my 3 year old. She's starting preschool in the fall. She's very petite for her age (30 lbs and 39 inches). I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get the Junior Backpack or the regular sized one. Does anybody have any experience with either? Edited to add: She won't have to take a lunch or anything next year, but she will have to take snacks and I imagine some type of folder. Not to mention bring home all of her crafts. She also has to have an extra set of clothes, including...

Your Favorite Toys & Books for a 1 Year-old

Hi moms, what are your favorite toys and board books for a 1 year-old? We have some Karen Katz books that my DD destroyed so I'm looking for some titles of sturdier lift-the-flap books as well as other cute board books. Also, do you know of any clothing labels that make very simple, modern, all cotton baby clothes without any ruffles, bows, embroidery, etc.? I just want something very plain, like the basics at BabyStyle. Thanks for your help.

Back-To-School Backpack Help

My son will be entering the 4th Grade...Last year he had to lug an agenda (3-Ring Binder) with him everyday...on top of his lunch box...and in the winter snow pants and sneakers. He can leave the snowpants and sneakers at school for the week, but I like them to come home on the weekends. Plus, I have no idea what other books he will need to bring home everyday. I am looking for a backpack that is going to last me, is big enough for all his stuff and not that expensive. He keeps saying he wants one on wheels, which makes sense now a days...
