How to deal with mucus congestion with newborn?

My 7 week old has a lot of mucus and sometimes she vomits it and chokes on it. I am terrified to put her in her own bed in case this happens. Our pediatrician has been told three times about this problem and doesn't seem to share my concern. Any tips or advice on getting rid of the mucus?

19Mth Old with Diaper Issues

Good Morning! I am asking to see if anyone has any suggestions for me here. My 19mth old son is having a heck of a time with diapers. OK, his skin is bad anyway (he is on zyrtec, 2% cortezone and lotion 4x daily) BUT the problem we have recently started having with his skin is in the diaper area (we haven't had issues there before). Since he was born he has been on Pampers. Well, a couple months ago I took him into the doctor because he had long sores (about 3) all in the private area of where the diaper is. The doctor said that is...

Advice for "Allergic Type" Symptoms

My daughter who is now 9yrs. old has had unusual "breakouts" ever since she was about three. Her knuckles get red and itch and her hands swell, then hives spread to her elbows, feet and ankles and then as it progresses starts on her face and torso. Ive taken her to allergist who say she is allergic to foods that never cause her any reactions. The only thing that relieves the symptoms is Zyrtec. I have even taken her to a specialist who couldnt find any illness. She often gets this reaction when the weather changes from hot to cold or...

Did You See the News on Statins?

i have very high cholesterol. i took lipitor for about a year (many years ago now), developed muscle pain, persistent weight gain and brain fuzziness. the doctor insisted lipitor had no bad side effects, but i quit taking it, and while my cholesterol skyrocketed again, the side effects went away. then the news came out that *sometimes* muscle pain could be serious symptom, and oh yeah, that liver damage thing. a couple of years ago my (former) nurse practitioner screamed at me, up in my face, because despite my risk factors i refused to...

When Zyrtec Is Not Enough...

My step son has slight asthma which almost never flares. He has allergies everyday. His mother does not keep him on a regular schedule of antihistimines as I did my daughter and so now I need a new way to tackle this problem. When he comes home to us, we give him Zyrtec or Claritin or something, but many times he is in full allergy flare by the time we get it to him. How can I help him? Should I drug him up the minute he hits our door or should I wait for allergy symptoms? Once he has taken a 24 hour antihisitmine, is there anything...

Zyrtec and Behavior

I have a 6 year old daughter who has allergies which seem to crop up this summer. I've given her Zyrtec for the last few weeks and am noticing some horrible behavior changes in her. I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if they could be related. She has always been an independent child, but this is a whole new level of bad behavior. I just started to wonder if it could be the Zyrtec. This is her first time on Allergy Meds.

ZYRTEC - Is It Safe?

Our pediatrician has suggested Zyrtec for my son's allergies. Anyone heard anything about this medication, or used it themselves? I have heard it works better than other allergy medications, but I have also heard it has detrimental side effects. I hate giving my son medication and like to avoid it as much as possible. Any stories, suggestions, advice, is greatly appreciated. Thanks moms!

Advice on Allergies and Asthma in 4 Year Old

My daughter will be 4 in July and we have had two trips to the ER since January due to coughing fits and once by ambulance because she stopped breathing (found out she had pneumonia). I saw an allergist who said she definitly has Asthma. He prescribed Zyrtec, Nasonex, and Advair. I don't believe my daughter needs all of these medications and I'm seeking a second opinion this week. I gave my daughter the Zyrtec and this morning she had a coughing fit, followed by vomiting. I won't give her the Advair until I see a Pulm. Specialist. I...

Zyrtec & Breastfeeding

Hi. I'm a mom-to-be, and want to breastfeed when my baby is born. The problem is, I have chronic allergies, and have to take Zyrtec every day. It's the only thing that works for me. I've I don't take it, I get hives and my skin swells- it's not your typical runny eyes, sneazy type of allergies. Nurses, midwives and doctors have told me that Zyrtec will dry-up breast milk. I've asked them if there's an alternative. I really want to breastfeed, and want my baby to have all the benefits of being breastfed. I hope someone out there can help me....
