Convertible Car Seats

i'm a little overwhelmed right now. My daughter is 10 mos old and about 17lbs and 27-28 inches. i've started looking for the next car seat but am so overwhelmed by the choices out there. Price is a factor- but not if it compromises Safety. I've looked at the Britax Roundabout and Marathon ( unsure if the extra $50 is needed to extend the life to 65lbs?) The Evenflo Triumph Advance seems to get great safety reviews, and goes to 50lbs ( at quite a bit less than the britax ) however some note it to be user UNfriendly. We had the Chicco...

Explaining Death to Toddler

Hi moms, My husband's grandma is dying and I would appreciate your advice on what to tell my two-and-a-half year old daughter about what is happening and especially when she does pass away, which is likely to be within a few weeks. My daughter is close to her great grandma (saw her at least weekly up until the last month when she's been in out of the hospital). Also, if grandma ends up passing away in the hospital where she currently is, is it safe to bring my daughter there to visit before that happens? She last visited grandma last week...

Why Always TWO Children? What's Wrong with Just One???

I'm a first time mom at age 44. I never thought I'd have children b/c of my age and then....Mr. Wonderful showed up! My little man is now 14 months old. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked when I'm going to have a little girl. When I respond with, "I'm an older mom to begin with and I just don't think it will happen". The respond that I often get is, "Only children have real issues". We didn't have any problems getting pregnant at all and, I didn't have any issues, whatsoever during my pregnancy. However, towards the end...

Dental Question HELP

husbands ex wife says dental surgery is required for the 5 year old daugher. Husband called doctor and asked about it and the doctor said since they're baby teeth, it is not required that she get this surgery. ex wife scheduled it anyway without consulting him. Husband emailed her and told her that he talked to the dentist and that he believes that they should wait until her originally scheduled appointment in December to assess her teeth again and revisit it at that time. Ex wife replied that she will do what she wants and that...

Follow up to Earlier Question: Teaching Gratitude

I had posted earlier about my 4 year old DD flipping out at the mall today over a toy - picking one out, then changing her mind, then wanting both, and me not giving in. It really got me upset because it made me feel like my daughter knows nothing about being thankful for what she has but maybe at this age that's expecting a bit much. She will go a friend's house for a play date and any toy they have that she does not have, she thinks is the greatest thing ever and then wants the same thing for herself. On the other hand, she usually...

JFF: Do You Ever Get So Tired of Cooking You Don't Want to Eat?

Ugh, I am at the point (and summer just started) that I am SOOOOOOOOOOO darn tired of cooking, that after I cook, I just lose my appetite! Because after cooking, it just means putting away/washing everything you used for cooking, then the family eats, THEN you gotta put it all away again. And repeat, every day, every meal, every whenever. Even if the family may help or the Husband may cook, I am just so sick of cooking! I rather starve than cook again and again and again and again. I can cook. I cook everyday. From scratch. I cook...

Having Trouble Finding a Mattress to Fit Tightly in My New Crib

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone is having the same experience that I'm having with a crib I bought at Target, the Simplicity Ellis 4-in-1 crib that was in the Target sale flyer a couple of months ago. I'm sure it's assembled correctly, and it's beautiful, but when I put in the mattress (crib doesn't come with a specific mattress, I chose a mattress separately online by the positive customer reviews)... we assembled it right before my daughter arrived, and I noticed that I could get two fingers between the crib interior and the edge...

Calling All Healthy Moms for Advice

I know some of you are very nutrition conscious and I would love your advice. What dietary changes have you made that really made a difference in your life? I am not looking for weight loss advice, rather suggestions about how to increase energy/decrease stress, etc. I tend to be very chemically sensitive. For example, caffeine has quite an affect on me: sometimes it gives me a wonderful manic burst of energy, but sometimes it just makes me completely nervous and jittery. Lately, I am feeling run down and pretty grumpy for a couple weeks of...

My Kids STILL Wet the Bed!

My 5 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son still wet the bed. They are of course potty trained and have been for YEARS but they cant seem to control their bladders at night. I used to think they were just lazy until this past week my daughter was sleeping next to me while I read a book and suddenly the bed got wet, she was still sound asleep. I have tried limiting their fluid intake before bed time and have them go to the bathroom before bed every night but they still seem to wet the beds EVERY night. Does anyone have any suggestions on why this...

Potty Training Question for Moms of 3-Year-old Boy Trainees!

If your little boy potty trained at age 3, at what POINT in the third year did he train? My son just turned three a few weeks ago. He's moderately interested but not overly interested in the potty and I haven't been able to get him to pee in it yet. I'm debating pushing it now vs. waiting three months or six months, but I'm curious what the spread is for boys? Just wondering if your boys were three, three and a half, or almost four when it all "clicked". Thanks! =)

Discontinued Crib Conversion Rail Kit Needed!

I own 2 Simplicity Ellis 4-in-1 convertible cribs (now in day bed configuration) for my twins. I would like to convert them to full sized beds, but I didn't purchase the rail conversion kits when I bought the cribs 4 years ago. Now, Simplicity is out of business COMPLETELY. It's like a ghost town online trying to track down anything Simplicity. I've tried Craigslist, Ebay, Overstock, etc , and every baby store imaginable. My next thought is to get any kind of conversion rail kit that would (hopefully) be a close match in color to the cribs....

Joint Party for Boys 15 Years Apart

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions on how to do a joint party. I have 2 sons who share the same exact birthday but are 15 years apart. My oldest will be 16 and the baby will of course be one. Just not sure how to go about it. We really can't afford to do two parties. My oldest doesn't mind having a joint party and said the theme is not big deal.
