Seeking Lung Health Alternatives

Hi all. Our daughter had whooping cough when she was about 8 months. We had throat cultures taken, and she was negative for actual pertussis. Still, her cough was definitely 'whooping' and it was scary. She's now 4 1/2, and when she laughs hard or has a cold or some other bug, her cough is terrible. She'll hack all night despite taking cough medicine, which we know is only a short term assistant, not a therapeutic remedy. So we're seeking some info on lung help, something to help clear and strengthen her lungs and bronchioles. ...

Pulmicort Side Effects

My son was diagnosed with asthma at 8 month old. He was prescribed Pulimicort just before he turned 12 months old (can only be used after 12 months old) as a maintence medicine. It has helped tremendously. We've only had to use his emergency medicine, albutural, twice since then and we were using it every week before then. He is now 17 months old and it seems like his growth has stalled out. From the time he had his 12 month check-up to his 15 month check-up he had not changed in growth and had actually lost weight. He also was not...

11 Month Old Prescribed Pulmicort

My 11 month son who wheezes from time to time had a recheck on his ear infection today. Well he was wheezing today and the doctor prescribed Pulmicort to use in his nebulizer twice a day. We already use the albuterol as needed, but not on a regular basis. She said the Pulmicort would prevent asthma symptoms, even though she said he is not officially diagnosed as asthmatic because they do not diagnose asthma in children until they are two years of age. I am concerned about the Pulmicort because I have been doing research and have found...

Can't Kick the Congestion

My daughter had RSV back in January and then Feb 14 I brought her back in because her hacking persisted and temperature spiked back up again. She tested negative for RSV and they said she had an ear infection. She was on amoxycillan for 10 days. Her hacking/congestion still persist with runny noses. I am sucking her nose out every morning and a few times a day over the weekend. The Dr said the congestion could last up to 8 weeks when she got the RSV. It has been that long and is still very bad in my opinion to the point that I am...

Pulmicort - Steroids for Asthma/Lung Issues

Do any of you have children who have taken Pulmicort or another steroid for asthma/lung issues. My son was born 3 months premature and therefore had immature lungs. In addition he had a chest tube for a pneumo-thorax and pneumonia all in the first two weeks of life, came home on oxygen, etc. This was all a year ago and he's doing incredible. Has been off of oxygen since April. All of that said, he is struggling with weather changes and the cold and flu season. A tiny cold leads to wheezing and bronchiolitis almost every time. My doc...

Anyone Familiar with Pulmicort

Anyone familiar with a medicine called pulmicort? It is a preventitive asthma medication. I am told it is also for allergies. It has been prescribed by my pediatrician for my 6 year old who has allergies. I 've read some horror stories on the internet...kids displaying aggressive behavior, unruly, weight gain, discipline issues... So I am hoping I get some positive feedback here. He had pneumonia in both lungs and both ears were infected. He spent 6 days in St Johns. Well, after steriods, 3 different antibiotics, oxygen and breathing...

4 Year Old Son with Allergies/asthma

My 4 year old son was recently diagosed with allergies associated with asthma. He gets a persistant cough this time of year and in the fall. The cough sometimes causes him to vomit. He has had allergies since he was a baby, however, the asthma part of this is new to me. I feel uneasy about it because he seems to be on lots of medication now. We have a nebulizer and he inhales albuterol twice daily. He also has nasonex, zyrtec and singulair. Zyrtec was the most effective, but now doesn't seem to work as well--this is when he was given...
