Introducing Solids to Daughter, Digestion Is Tough

I have a 5 month old daughter just starting out on some solids. We prepare fresh fruits, veggies, oatmeal and rice. She also enjoys cherrios and graham crackers. Obviously her digestion has changed, but should she labor with bowel movements? I think this may be the reason she was up crying every two hours tonight. Anyone have the same experience and any suggestions? I will discuss with our family doctor next visit.

Does Anyone Have Experience with the Acid Reflux Where It Doesn't Come Up???

I have a baby girl who just turned 2 months old yesterday. She has had some real tummy issues that my husband and I thought we had figured out. The main consistant problem has seamend to be gas for her. We switched her formula twice due to dr's orders, she is now on Carnation supreme soy. The Dr thought perhaps she has acid reflux, but the kind where it doesn't come up all the way and that's why she was maybe in so much pain. She listend to her tummy and heard tons of gas and prescribed her prevacid. At that point she was still on a cow...

Baby Has Hard Bowel Movements

I have a happy one year old daughter who has always had problems with harder than normal bowel movements. When she was just a few months old we had to put her on sorbital(sugar water). I hated having to do this and started feeding her prunes and other foods that I thought would help. She's now drinking milk and it's gotten worse. She's not constipated she actually goes 4-5 times a day, but it's in rabbit pellet form. I hate to be so blunt, but I'm hoping that someone has some ideas on how to cure this without over-the-counter meds. I...

Probiotics vs Miralax

I know I've posted on this issue before, but here it goes again! My 3 year old deals with chronic constipation. She is normally a good eater and loves fruits and vegetables. She also drinks water regularly through out the day, I'd say about 4 8oz glasses per day. Sometimes she goes up to 4 days with out having a bowel movement. When she goes that long she gets really sick. She won't eat or hardly drink anything, her belly gets round and hard and she's miserable. Her bowels push on her bladder and she loses the sensation that she needs to...

Miralax and Constipation

Since we started school we have been battling with constipation with our 5 year old. I think it is the transition from "free range" drinking to structure. I have met with the dr countless times and first we tried diet changes with no luck, now we are on miralax. I just wonder if anyone has used this long term with their child and has an opinion. I tried taking her off it over the Christmas break and over spring break but the constipation comes back horribly. I was wondering if putting her on a drinking schedule may help? I could have...

4Yo with Ulcerative Colitis

My 4yo is having a colitis flare up and I was wondering if anyone knew of something to help with the pain. His poor tummy is really hurting him and I don't know what to do. The doctors running other tests to make sure it isn't something else bothering him but he was off his colitis medicine for a week with the tummy flu he just had and I think that is why it is acting up. He's been getting pains so bad he's throwing up so he can't keep his meds down so it keeps getting worse. It's a vicious cycle. If anyone has any advice it would be...

Benefiber Instead of Miralax?

Hi, our son will be three in November and is taking Miralax for chronic constipation. Long story short, he is potty trained except for when his stool gets backed up and then comes out uncontrollably and extra soft due to the Miralax. It is so hard to figure out the right dosage for him - right now we do a half cap a day, and a full cap if he hasn't pooped in two days. Anyway, to say it stresses him out would be an understatement. His stool so unnaturally soft, it's pretty much diarrhea. So, despite the fact that he never has accidents...

Moms Who Use Miralax

Our son was just put on Miralax by a nutritionist. We started on Thursday and the pharmacist recommended 1 tsp a day for him. It's Sunday now and no sign of a poop. For all the moms who've used this med on their kids, do you remember how long it took to get initial results? And about how long were your kids on it before their systems became regular? Also, what is the dosage you were told to use? My son is 2 years old and about 28 pounds. Thanks!

Miralax Vs. Suppositories

I took away my son's pullups and he is withholding his stool now. Today is the 3rd day. I think he just needs to poop once in the potty and he'll be OK. He's scared of the notion and he needs to see that it's OK to poop in the toilet. So I know there's a buildup of poop in his system. he was dancing around yesterday trying to hold it in. I've given him lots of fiber and juice/water so I know it's inevitably going to come out soon. In case it doesn't by tonight, I want to make him go so he doesn't get constipated. I'm debating the...
