Reccomendations for a Book on Infant Development

Hi. I was just wondering if there are any suggestions to books about child development. Things I should be expecting, milestones, etc. and approximate age of these things. I have twin girls who just came home from the hospital and looking for some guidance.

Boyfriend Is Having a Baby with His Ex Girlfriend

Hi ladies, I am really torn and don't know how to proceed. I have been divorced for 4 years and have a 7 year old son. I met a man 4 months ago and we have been in a serious relationship. He also has been divorced (twice) and has two kids (1 from each marriage)--yes, I know.... Things have been going really well and we love each other. Yesterday, he told me that he just found that his ex-girlfriend is expecting a baby from him. They broke up in August last year.. Not sure why she would tell him that just now when she is almost due....

Could It Be Growing Pains?

My four month old has been crying all day for no apparent reason. And when he cries, it lasts at least 30 minutes each time. It started today. He also started eating more today so I'm guessing he's going through a growth spurt. My husband thinks that he's in physical pain/discomfort due to the growth spurt -- he said he's able to calm him down by squeezing and massaging his limbs firmly. Has anyone had an infant cry significantly more than usual during a growth spurt? Or is this something completely different? Never had this happen...

How Do I Teach Independence?

Hi ladies! I need to know how to teach my almost 4 year old to be independent when doing class work. For example, when we try to get him to write his name he says "I need your help" or "I don't know how". Basically, the only way to get him to write his name is to sit with him and praise every single stroke. UGH! Now he is in preschool and he wants the teachers to "help" him with EVERYTHING. I do not understand how we got here. **I suppose I need to give a little more information. My son started potty training at 27 months (very...

Kindergartener with Possible Learning Disabilities

My youngest (turned 5 in Dec.) has just finished his first week of Kindergarten. I got a call from his teacher tonight with some concerns. She feels he is not on the same education level as the other kids in his class. He has had speech issues/delays and has been getting speech therapy for that since he was 3. I guess my question is...how do I help a child that possibly has a learning dissability? He does not know his alphabet...can not identify his letters by name...has no clue what sounds the letters make..etc. He gets easily mixed up on...

Bringing Home Baby Outfit

What type of outfit did you use to bring your baby home from the hospital? Size, style, etc? Should I bring a preemie and a newborn outfit just in case? It will be winter time (I hope!) when the little one is born. Did any of you use the car seat covers in winter so you didn't have to bundle baby up so much? Thanks for the advice moms!

Seeking a Bar Mitzvah Mom for Advice...

My 10-year old son and I just returned from a Bar Mitzvah. We were invited from a family in Sunday School class. There are 15 kids in the class, all ages from 5-13 years old. Here's the problem: At the reception, there was a kid's table. When my son approached the table, he noticed place cards for seating. His name was not there, nor was his 10-year old friend. My son approached the Bar Mitzvah kid and he said, "I only have this table for my friends, and I didn't want you to come anyway"... Of course, this left me with a teary-eyed...

Am I Doing My Kids a Disservice by Not Having a Social Life?

I guess my question is am I setting an antisocial example for them? I have moved 3 times in the past 9 years, all different states. I can rarely make friends and my husband and I have never used a babysitter so we don't get alone time unless family is visiting. But now that my daughter is in school I feel a little awkward about not having a social circle. I had one friend in the last place we lived and our families got along great but we usually just got together for playdates. Now we are in another state and I am overwhelmed with...
