Seeking Advice About Adult Daughter

My adult daughter (30) lives with her boyfriend over 800 miles away. It's not a question of me not accepting her boyfriend because I do. I have visited her a couple of times and we've had good times. However, she communicates very little with me or her dad and even with the rest of the family. She was adopted at 3 mos. but she is our wonderful daughter who grew up in a loving, warm family. I'm wondering if some of her feelings are deep rooted because she feels so detached from all of us. I usually write her once a week or everyother...

How Do I Accept That My 18 Yo Daughter Is Dating a 30 Yo Man?

My 18 yo daughter is a freshman in college across state. A 30 yo man that we only knew of as her friend took her away for an off-the-grid, no cell service camping trip her first weekend in college He lives in our hometown so It was quite opportunistic of him to drive 7 hours to whisk her away from her first college weekend. Since then they are together forever. While my daughter seems happy, he has done nothing to demonstrate to us that he respects her or our values. As they are both adults it’s reasonable that they are sexual. But I’m...

What Age for Independence?

This week, my almost 15 year old DSS seems to think he can go where he wants without telling us before hand. He has a cell phone, and the rule has been that he call and check in first for permission, then he can usually go (provided he has a plan for finishing homework and chores in addition to what he wants to do, and that we're comfortable with the activity). The last few days he's been "forgetting" to call (possible in the excitement of school ending, possibly just not calling) or saying "I thought I told you yesterday" (if he had, it...

Adult Son Who Had Learning Disabilities as a Child Still Struggling as Adult

I have an adult son who is 28 years old. As a child he was diagnosed with; ADD, an Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia and a Memory Disorder. His physical motor skills, emotional and mental skills developed much slower (years) than my other two children. I couldn't afford the special schooling the Dr suggested and had to rely on the public school system which was extremely lacking. To complicate things for him, I was a widowed mom, no life insurance when their father passed when my children were ages 6, 4 & 2. While I was a devoted...

Hi, My 18 year old daughter is sleeping overnight with a boyfriend. I have told her that this is not acceptable to me and that it is definetly not ladylike. She told me she would not do it again. Then she turns around and says shes going for a little whild and I call at 4:45 am and she answers the phone(which she did not do before) sleepy like and tells me she is on her way. I tell her what is the point at this time of the morning and that she should have taken her clothes with her. I told her she could not be a tramp around me and...

Do I Send Christmas Gifts to Adult Daughter Bashing Christians on Social Media?

Adult daughter chooses to be an atheist. I accept and respect her choice although I don’t agree with it. My problem is that she is constantly bashing and denigrating all things and everyone Christian in long diatribes on social media. She is the first to speak out very loudly if anyone belittles others for bullying based on race, religion, sexual orientation, etc., etc., but continues her cyber attack on Christianity. When I pointed out the hypocrisy, I received a long public tongue-lashing on social media. I am hurt and embarrassed. ...
