Cold, Runny Nose Advice

My 18 month old has her first cold. She has a runny nose, and drainage that made her gag and throw up a little last night. I could hear that she has a lot of drainage and was having trouble breathing through her nose. I have been SO very lucky that she has been a very healthy child. She just started in a Mother's Day Out program, so I am sure she'll begin to pick up more germs. Can anyone give me advice on alleviating cold symptoms and what to watch for, in terms of this moving to an ear infection? Should I use the humidifier? Vapor rub?...

Cough Cough Cough!

I have the most IRRITATING cough that I cannot seem to shake! I am about 8 mos. pregnant and can't take medicines I normally would. I have a check-up on Friday so I can ask my OB then, but does anyone have any remedies in the meantime? It feels like there is a constant tickle in my throat and in the top of my chest. Plus, I have to run to the restroom each time I have an episode so I don't wet myself due to the weight and movement on my bladder. Help please!!

Help! Steroids Affecting Baby's Sleeping/eating

My 16 month old baby can catch the FLU and she can catch a COLD, but she just can't CATCH A BREAK!! She's so tiny and we're working with doctors to monitor her weight gain and she just keeps getting sick! ARGH! so frustrating I just want to cry! Anyways, she came down with a cold and developed croup, we took her to the ER Sun morning because she had stridor (straining to breathe in) and they gave her an oral steroid. It took almost 3 hours to get her to sleep last night, she was so WIDE AWAKE! And she would throw herself against the...

Was It Pneumonia?

My 2 year old daughter had what appeared to be a cold over the weekend. Sunday night she got a high fever (104.6) and was breathing very rapidly, coughing and throwing up. I called the on-call nurse who said we should bring her to the ER. The ER doc didn't see anything on the x-ray, but he heard "crackles" in the lungs so he said it could be the start of pneumonia. Since they weren't sure if it was bacterial or viral he prescribed amoxicillin. Anyway, she responded so quickly and is feeling so much better today. I wonder if it was pneumonia...

Home Remedies for Cough/sore Throat

My 4 year old is coughing non-stop after catching something from my 7 year old. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic so he's taking that, but that doesn't ease the coughing or the sore throat. He's only 4 so cough medicines are out of the question (per the doctor). He saw big sis using cough drops so he wanted to try it, but it was too "spicy" for him. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!
