Homeschooling a 3 Year Old

Any advice on starting a cuuriculum for my 3 year old. I'm a SAHM and our budget is slim, right now I can't afford to get him into half day preschool. The least expensive I've found is $95 a week. So I've been seriously thinking of homeschooling him. What advice, websites and curriculum can be beneficial and easy to teach. Thanks moms

Baby Sign Language?

I was wondering if anyone had some information on baby sign language. I understand it is a good way for children to learn to communicate and express themselves before they are old enough to talk. Does anyone do this with great success? How old can you start to teach your baby to sign? Are there any good books where I can learn more (because I hardly know any sign language myself)? Does anyone have any tips or techniques?

All She Wants to Do Is Dance

Hi everyone,my 4yr. old daughter loves to dance and has mentioned she wants to be a ballerina. Does anyone know of an affordable place where I can take her for ballet or dance lessons of some sort. I'm a single parent so I can't afford too much on my own. I also thought about ballroom dancing for her but I don't know what's the right age to start that at. Any suggestions anyone? You all always give me good advice so I want to say thank you in advance.

3 Year Old Cries All Day at Preschool

My 3 year old daughter cries all day in preschool saying that she misses her Mommy. It has been 4 weeks now -(she goes twice a week for 2 1/2 hrs a day), and it's not getting any better. Does anyone have any suggestions? She does not play at recess, just sits by herself with her head down (saying that she misses me and her younger sister) and won't eat the snack or have any juice citing the same reason. The teacher recommended trying to set up a playdate with another little girl in the class but it is so hectic at drop off and pick up...

Getting My 4 Year Old to Help

i have a 4 year old daughter who LOVES to color and be creative with paper, scissors, paint, etc. however, she leaves a HUGE mess to pick up. i have tried a couple of approaches in getting her to help, such as just flat out asking/telling her to do it, givng her the consequence of a time out if she doesnt, and so on. this has happened with her barbies also, and we just flat out took them away from her after a while of not picking up. shes always comming up with an excuse as to why she cant do it. and, i dont feel i should do it for her...

We are considering enrolling our daughter in a French immersion school for kindergarten, but I am concerned that it will be too difficult for her to learn a new language and actually learn anything else. My daughter is very excited about kindergarten but I am worried that it may too frustrating for her and I want her to enjoy school not dread it. Has anyone had experience with this type of school and if so what did you think of it?

Unruly 3 Year Old

I wrote a couple of weeks ago and i really need some advise. My 3 year old girl is completely out of control. She does not listen to anyone, she is horribly bratty, and has no regard for anyone else. When we are with other children, she will rip toys away from them, push them, and is ALWAYS the boss. But, she is the first to cry when someone else does something to her that she doesn't like. She has started talking baby talk all the time. It's not an attention thing, because I give her attention 24/7 and try very hard to be patient. ...

3 Year Old Behavior...

Hello there...I am looking for new tricks to have up my sleeve when dealing with my 3 year old daughter. As of late she has taken to shrieeking when put on a time out. I also have not been able to get her to say "I'm sorry for _____" once she's out of her time out. She flat out refuses and walks away or says she "can't". She also has taken to talking or raising her voice over mine to repeat herself when told "no" in getting something. This she picked up from me due to my using it when she started repeating herself so say "noooooo" over her....

He can't stand tags in his clothing, socks are too tight, pants are too tight (even though they are not.....), no long sleeve shirts (can't stand them!). Behaviors he has are: tantrums....screaming, yelling, and hitting the bedroom door...etc... when we are transitioning him from one thing to the next...and he is not happy about the next event. Dance Class Drama

Sorry if this is too long, but my 2 and a half year old is having trouble at dance class. This is a dance school that offers a tiny tot class for 2 and 3 year olds (but only in the evening) and promotes it with an open house and two free sessions. When I took my daughter, my son had fun too, so I signed him up with the 4-5 year olds. It is a combined tuition that is a "deal" when you add a second child. I only added my son because I was taking my daughter. Their classes are at the same time. To the issue, my daughter has been ejected from...

Books for Just Starting to Read

Hi All My son is 4 (almost 5) and is just beginning to read short, predictable text. I am really excited because, I used to teach first grade / reading. Yay! Anyway, this may seem strange because I am a teacher, but I am appalled at the lack of readable books for this age/reading level in the library. (At school we had a book closet full of little books just right for this stage of reading) My son's preschool teacher seemed a bit taken aback when I wondered if I could choose a few titles from the school's book closet to read with him....

Summer Camp Ideas and Alternatives

We both work full time. DS now 6 had been going to the summer camp program at his former day care until last year. He loved it but aged out. This year we had him enrolled in a local Day camp. Light academics in the morning, the pool in the afternoon twice a week, the playground in the afternoon twice a week and a field trip every Friday. He is miserable and dreads going. The program itself seems sound, but he is lumped in with kids as old as 11 who are a little rough and tumble and a little intolerant of my son a bossy talkative 6 year...

Swimming Lessons--should I Do Them Myself?

I was a swim instructor for 5 years and (obviously) want my two kids (5-1/2 and 8) to learn how to swim. However, I've heard that you can't teach your own kids to swim and just want to put them into swimming lessons. My husband thinks that I'm being lazy and "not wanting" to teach my own kids, but I don't want one more thing to discipline/push them on. What do you think?

Can I be honest here? I feel like my kids are watching too much t.v. They wake up and start watching t.v. I think they watch about an hour in the morning before breakfast. Then, while I make lunch, they watch another hour or so....usually Nick Jr. type shows. After lunch, it's nap time/quiet time. After nap, they watch about another hour while we wait for the baby to wake up. Then, we play, errands,...
