Internet safety and responsibility begins at home and we need to be monitoring our children's online activities. Open, honest, age appropriate communication is a big factor in making sure that children of all ages are aware of the dangers online.

Stella W commented on March 11, 2010 - A friend mentioned this just a week ago. She said it's mostly porn. People are on their web-cams flirting, stripping, acting out sexual situations...Kids have too much pressure growing up as it is. Porn is porn, always was and always willl be.

- Should we be concerned? Does this question need to be asked? Anything that pairs my teenager with a stranger would cause me more than concern. Fox called it a "Predator's Paradise." The question should be, "How do we stop it?" Tico&Taco

- I am writing a letter to my representatives today asking for better laws that protect first amendment rights and children. If they can card a person for beer and porn at the very least these sites should require valid official ID and some accountability.
Janice B commented on March 11, 2010 - The best advice is ages old . . . "Don't talk to strangers!"

Gail M commented on March 11, 2010 - My verdict right or wrong was it was set up by pedophiles. One discussion that we should have with our kids is that with online messaging kids now a days don't know how to define a friend vs a stranger and that older people impersonate kids.

Stacie T commented on March 11, 2010 - You can be on chat roulette for only 5 seconds and see some guy masterbating. This site is definitely NOT appropriate for children and should be blocked on their computer.

- While I agree with this, I don't feel that this is enough. Parents need to be able to block out sites like this on their computers. Unfortunately, many parents are naive about computers and how to block sites and what kind of software out there can do it.

I wouldn't allow my child or teen to use this site. Personally, I think it's too risky and would never try it.

Karin H commented on March 11, 2010 - first off, we are mothers, and , that being the case, we must keep ahead of the curve. because, child molesters are always looking for a new way to contact our children without the parents finding out about it.
Karin H commented on March 11, 2010 - which typically means that by the time the parents find out about a new social web site aimed at kids, the child predators had already established themselves, by using innocent sounding user names as a front.dont be bashful about checking out the site
Karin H commented on March 11, 2010 - its only the seriously stupid child molesters that get caught.the vast majority of them molest children for decades, without ever being caught. because they are suposedly pillars of the community.always know who is trying to communicate with your child

The issue with a site like chatroulette is not just how sickos use it, it is whether or not parents even know it exists. While many of us monitor what our children are doing on-line there are still many parents out there that are not as diligent.

Worry is not the right word. We should be AWARE so that we can monitor it . Just as we need to be aware of the dangers of picture messaging and the pitfalls of texting. In the cyberworld children feel anonymous and safe. It's up to us to protect them.

Well if you are monitoring your childrens/teens internet use I don't see why parents would need to "worry" about it. There are plenty of sites I would not want my child using which is why I won't let my daughter use the internet completely unsupervised.

YES YES YES WORRY! Have you ever been to that site? It is video chat and there are some very strange sexual things going on there. No kids should ever be exposed to what that site has on it.

My brother is a registered sex offender who is very savvy when it comes to sites like this. These sites are the perfect place for pedophiles. Your kid may think he/she is talking to another 16 or 18year old, it commonly is a 40 or 50yr old pedophile.

being from a family of peolice officers, I have seen them after a child has been injured from one of these"innocentchats" the effect on them is profound. Why would anyone want to endanger their child by not being aware of what is going on with computer!
