Absolutely none. On occasion when someone offers them soda, they reply, "that's a grownup drink!" in a horrified voice. They are 4 and 5.

None there is no reason to feed kids poison. There are so many good choices as parents we decide what is in the house and what we serve at parties. I've had very happy parties with very little refined sugar to alter the kids minds - more good food &fun.

Priscilla G commented on March 18, 2010 - The sugars in juice are very different than the sugars and syrups in soda. Your body digests them differently. There is no need for soda and only a small need for juice if your children are not eating enough fruit.

Priscilla G commented on March 18, 2010 - Water is best. thanks marta

Sharon P commented on March 18, 2010 - Juice is not the be-all end all. Water is best. Doctors limit juice to one glass a day because it contributes to being overweight. Yes, natural sugars can cause you to be overweight, too! Sugar is the underrated evil in both soda and juice.

Shelly K commented on March 18, 2010 - I would try for none but do not make it so taboo that there is some excitement around it. We used to be soda drinkers but not it is not in the house at all. If there is soda around and they have a little bit, not the end of the world.

Donna S commented on March 18, 2010 - work, accompany his studying. He started looking for soda on his own as middle-schooler, getting out of the machines at school and church. I think that if I had not been so restrictive, maybe he would have not sought it away from home whenever he could.

Christine H commented on March 18, 2010 - No really. Many "fruit juices" have as much or sometimes even more HFCS as soda. You need to read the labels. Also Fruit Juice is a processed food product devoid of most of (unfiltered juice) if not all (filtered juice) the fiber present in whole fruit.

Valisa N commented on March 18, 2010 - No, even juices are not good for children. I am a Holistic Nutritionist and have learned that nothing in a can or box is good for you. children need to get their fruit juice from an actual fruit. If you think your child needs juice than purchase a juicer.

Suzette H commented on March 18, 2010 - Prosecuting? I don't give my child soda but I value tolerance highly so I won't be prosecuting anyone for such a frivilous reason. I would rather my child drink soda then learn to be intolerant.

Cecelia D commented on March 18, 2010 - Yes, juices are high in sugar too, but it's not the white refined sugar that is in soda: no nutritional value and it tears down our organs. Juice, honey, real maple sugar, molasses are unrefined sweeteners with nutrients our bodies can use in moderation.

Leiloni S commented on March 18, 2010 - I don't think I need to buy it and put in the house in order to "prevent" future binging. My children will make their own choices as they grow but it it my responsibility to care for them now. . . and I only let them have up to one glass of juice a day.

Ahna V commented on March 18, 2010 - moderation is the key when they are a little older..but until they realize it..just dont buy it-they have no jobs!

Rachel A commented on March 18, 2010 - Soda has no redeeming value - unlike juice, which at least has some vitamins. I agree that a total ban makes the stuff appealing, but that's no reason to make it a regular staple. We don't keep it in the house, and allow it only occasionally.

travelmom commented on March 18, 2010 - I was never allowed any thing like soda or sweets growing up and had soda and candy addiction from college onward. Everything (even sugar) is best in moderation. Talk openly about it so kids wont be sneaky about it later on.

Leslie W commented on March 18, 2010 - We don't have our son drinking juice or soda. He doesn't miss it, he doesn't even know they exist. He is 3. In my opinion there is no reason to give children juice. Just give them the real thing. We have a responsibility to teach our kids to eat well

Karissa L commented on March 18, 2010 - if you act like its a "sacrifice" to not have soda, sure they may feel the need to guzzle it when they can get their hands on it. if you instead realize that its not good for anyone to drink soda, then maybe they'll appreciate naturally sweet foods.

Cara W voted on March 18, 2010

My children have had the opportunity to taste soda but they do not like it because it is carbonated. My four year old has a fit if you try to give him soda and my 5 year old just doesn't ask for it. I don't keep it away, I just don't encourage it.

In my house soda is a "Big Kid Drink" so my older children will be allowed to occasionally have a bottle of soda, my younger 2 will occasionally have a shirley temple at a fancy restaurant or a sip of my or my husbands but as a whole very little.
