Finding Time to Work Out

Detroit, MI

Hi everyone, I am trying to get an idea of how other moms find time in their busy schedules to work out. I have a toddler and work full time. I leave the house around 7:15 to drop off my son at daycare, then head to work. I usually eat at my desk because there's always a lot to do at work. I get out of work around 5:15 and get home close to 6pm, just in time to figure out dinner (my husband picks up our son) and spend a little time with my son. By the time we're done with dinner, bath, kitchen clean up, etc, it's 9:30 or so and I'm too exhausted to work out. Plus, I still have to pack lunches, etc. My husband is a big help and takes care of all the bath/bedtime stuff with our son. Can those of you who find time to work out, either at a gym or at home, please share with me how your "typical' day goes and how you do it? I really need to get moving and lose some weight and get healthier again! Thank you all!

Has Anyone Tried Xenical?

Dallas, TX

My doctor has recommended I try Xenical to block fat absorption for weight loss. I have been trying to lose 30 pounds after delivering my youngest son. I do work out (with a trainer) and watch what I eat (weight watchers). My problem is that I have hypertension and only beta blockers seem to control it. Beta Blockers slow your metabolic rate and may make it very difficult to shed unwanted pounds. I am curious if anyone out there has had any experience (good or bad) with Xenical that they are willing to share. Thanks Mamas!

Help Me

Chicago, IL

I can't really say what is wrong with me, but I can say this I have been trying to lose weight for almost five years now.I can not seem to manage this goal. I feel very bad about this. Sometimes I just eat and eat for no reason at all. I have such a strong desire to change but I can't stick to anything at all. I mean I will start working out for about a good three weeks and then it's back in the slumps for me. I can't figure out what's my problem. I know that I worry a lot about my husband and sometimes when I get mad at him which is often I find myself bing eating. I am saved and I have asked God to help me so many times. I hate the way I look. I feel horrible. I don't have the energy I want, and most of all I want my daughter to be proud of me. I don't want her to have to go throught what I am going through with my mom. My mother has Diabetes and high blood pressure. Please don't get me wrong I am really trying I just don't know what else to do. Sometimes I don't even want to wake up

How Long Did It Take You to Lose the Baby Weight?

Dallas, TX

Please tell me I'm not alone! And I'm sorry for the long thread: I was at a healthy 150lbs when my son was born. After I had him, I was already down to 133, but about 2 months after that, I gained back 25lbs even though I was breastfeeding and pumping and excercising, eating healthy, etc. Fast forward to now, when my son is 22 months old, I weigh more or about the same when I was pregnant. My thyroid isn't the issue -and I actually have mild hyperthyroidism, which usually works in my favor. I get bloodwork done every 6 months to a year to keep it monitered, and it's always been the same level, even while pregnant. If I could cut out my entire middle section - I would be happy - but since that doesn't seem to be an option... I am 5'6" and weigh anywhere from 150 to 155 - and I keep losing those same 5 lbs but nothing more. I eat healthy, and I'm pretty active, but I don't have a real excercise regimen considering I have a toddler and no sitter, no gym membership (no extra money for one), and getting outside usually depends on the weather. I own about 10 different exercise dvd's - but can't find the time to do them with my tot running around, who also doesn't take naps anymore. I don't really have the money to spend on diet programs, but I did buy Alli (haven't taken it since I'm terrified of the 'anal leakage'). I would consider nutrisystem or something if anyone knows how much it really costs a month... Does anyone else have this problem? I don't even have a goal weight anymore because I'm so frustrated - 10 lbs would be a nice start - I feel like I should see some result by now - It's been almost 2 years since his birth!

I Need to Lose 5-10 Pounds in the Next 6 Weeks.

Salt Lake City, UT

I know people ask about diets and weight loss ideas on here all the time. I feel my situation is a little different than most and haven't found my answer in the other responses, so here goes: I'm not overweight. My personal healthy weight where I feel like I look right is around 120-125 pounds (I'm 5'4"). Right now I'm on a medication that rearranges my fat stores so that my face and midsection look "round" (It's prednisone). I weigh about 133 pounds. It may be a little vain, but the reason I want to lose 10 pounds in the next six weeks is because we are going to visit family that I haven't seen in a year, and the medication is making me look different, especially in my face. If I lose the weight I want to, it won't be quite as noticeable. I don't have a problem with over-eating (or cutting back on calories), and I have started exercising in the last week - I run every other day, and do strength exercises (crunches, pushups, leg lifts, small weights, etc.) every other day, and I have changed my diet to cut back on fat and calories. I don't have time or opportunity to go to the gym, so I'm looking for something that I can do from home with minimal equipment because I don't have any gym equipment at home. Anyone have a great method that has worked for them? Or if anyone knows any good foods I should incorporate that help raise metabolism or are easier calories to burn. Thanks.

Need Etiquette Advice!

Dallas, TX

My girl friend and I have been dieting and working out together and having a great time and a little success! Today she gave me some really nice clothes that she used to fit into, but thinks she will not fit into again. She told me the pants were still too tight for her and she didn't want to be bothered trying to fit into them again. I am thankful for her gift, it was very thoughtful and kind. The problem is, nothing fits- it is all too big. I'm afraid to tell her because I think it might damage her self confidence. Maybe I am overthinking this. I don't want her to think that the clothes she is still too big for are too big for me... seems rude telling her that. I would almost feel like I am bragging that I am smaller than her. I just don't know what to do. She is surly going to ask how they fit sooner or later. I would like to give her the clothes back and tell her to keep working hard and they will all fit soon. Maybe this question is in the wrong category- seemed like the best place to place it. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Need Help Losing Weight

Spartanburg, SC

I need to lose weight, about 130 pounds. I have been going to the gym since Jan, and am making sure to work out, doing both cardio and weight training, but only noticed about a 10 pound difference doing that, then in August I started taking Phentermine an appetite suppressant, and started on the Carbohydrate Addicts diet and was able to lose 28 pounds in a month, but since I have plateaued with only a .5 to 1 pound difference on a daily basis going up and down, but staying basically in the same place. I am frustrated and not sure what to do. I have spent 1000's of dollars in weight loss medication and on weight loss books only to not have it work for me. I have done some reading and believe that I have insulin resistance and a mild case of hyperthyroidism ( my doctor gave me a blood test and said it was fine, however I have read that those blood tests are not the best way to know) and I have all the symptoms. I need some help. Has anyone else struggled with their weight or with insuline resistance and hyperthyroidism and could offer some help. I need to do something and I am committed to making the changes needed. Currently I only drink water, do cardio at least 4 days a week for 30-45 minutes and one day I do a full hour, and weight train 4 days per week. Please help.

I need to lose weight and try as I might I cannot seem to stay on a diet. I am looking for a weight loss doctor or if anyone has tried any of these so called diet pills that work..I'd love to hear about it. My husband and children are all really thin. Not that we shouldn't eat healthy...but right or wrong they still love the good stuff. It's just so tiresome to cook 2 different meals every day. Anyway...anybody have any suggestions? Need Weight-loss Help Now!

San Francisco, CA

I am the mother of two happy, healthy two-year-old daughters. My weight since giving birth has advanced to the "you better do something about it soon" stage, but I am not feeling motivated at all about getting started with the process. I live a very active life, socially. I work outside of the home Monday-Friday, and attend church Sundays most of the time, so when I find time to myself, all I want to do is sleep, or relax in some way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Money is very limited, even on a two-person income. I want to be able to run after my children and not feel like I have run a marathon. I also want to be healthy. Help?

Ok Ladies, I Need Reciepes for Fit Foods!

Dallas, TX

I have started going back to the gym, I actually got myself a personal trainer to show me what I need to do and push me to do it, to reach my goal. Of course I need to lose weight, who doesn't, but my goal is not losing weight, my goal is toning my body, putting everything back where it belongs. My husband and I bought each other motorcycle's for christmas this year, and I want to look hot on my bike! We've always wanted motorcycles, but never had the money to actually get them, and this year we were blessed, and bought them, took the safety course, and now we're riding together. My problem is, I'm fender fluff instead of hot on my bike, or so I think, and I want to look great. Now that being said, after being diagnoses with malignant melanoma and having to go through chemo, my outlook on life it totally different. I no longer want to eat whatever I want, sit around and not be fit, and waist away and end up a diabetic. I want to set an example for my children, and t each them how to eat right, and that it's fun to be fit. I would like to be the mom their proud of, I want my husband to be proud to have me by his side (of course he says he's already proud of me), but most of all I want to be proud of myself. If you healthy eating moms can send some reciepes my way of things you feed your families, food that your kids eat and like, I sure would appreciate it. This is not a New Years Resolution by the way, I don't make them, this is a lifestyle change. Thank you so much mommies! A.

Seeking Some Godly Counsel in the Weight Area

Houston, TX

Ok, ladies this is a sensitive subject but I am just going to put it out there and hopefully some of you will understand what I mean. I am having a tough time getting my weight under control since I had my son. I was always slender in high school but I had pretty bad eating habits and just good metabolism, plus I was always dieting. Then in college I put on the ol' college 50 which was crazy but about 8 years or so ago I got it all off with weight watchers. After initially losing the weight I never really had to follow the program very strictly so I have just sort of been cruising for several years. Well then I got married and had a baby and gained 50 pounds during pregnancy. Now I just don't want to be on a strict diet. What I really desire is to be healed in this area of weight. I really am tired of some sort of yo-yo diet and I just don't want to always be thinking about what to eat or how many calories or points something has. I just want to turn it over to God and be free but I am scared. I guess I am worried that if I am not on some sort of eating plan that I will just blow up which would not make me too happy. I mean I already don't fit into any of my pre-preggie clothes. But the thing is I know I can trust the Lord in all things so why should this one area be so different? Plus my eating habits are good I just eat too much sometimes. I am going to start excercising which I think will be very helpful. I guess I just want to know if there are any of you out there that just gave it up to God and had good results. I do feel good about myself and my husband has no complaints but I do really miss my old clothes! It may sound so silly but I guess I am just looking for a bit of encouragement if any of you have been through or are going through this. Thanks!

Suggestions on Weight Loss

Miami, FL

I know this probably sounds horrible coming from someone with my background, but I can't seem to do it for myself. I have lost basically all of my pregnancy weight, which is good, but I am battling this weight that I had gained before I got prego due to birth control pills. Ever since I started taking those about a year before my son was born, I gained 10 to 15 lbs. I am currently working with my MD to get me the new Meridia IUD, just so that I can stop taking the pills and actually lose the weight. I was thinking seriously about joining Weight Watchers, but I am not sure if I should go to the meetings or do the online thing, just because I have a very busy schedule. Monday through Friday, I wake up at six to drop off my eight month old son at daycare by seven thirty, and get to work by eight thirty to open at nine. I work until around five (sometimes it vaires from five to five thirty... depending on patients), then go pick my son up. Because of traffic, I dont get to him until at least quarter to six or even six. We dont get home until the latest six thirty, assuming we dont make any quick stops to the store to get a side dish for dinner. By the time I get dinner ready and juggle him... it's already eight. I try to cook dinners that are healthy, have plenty of variety, and enough for lunches the next day for my husband and myself. Some nights, he gets home before me, and he has tried to help begin dinner until I get home. Other nights, he has night school... so I am left to do everything. Should I go to the meetings, just for the face to face encouragement since I need that type of support to keep myself on this diet? Or, with my busy schedule, should I opt for the online deal and work to sticking to it?

Tired of Being Asked If I Am Pregnant

Austin, TX

I was asked for the second time in less than a year how far along I am in my pregnancy. I had my daughter almost 7 years ago, and am not pregnant. I want to lose weight, but have a hard time finding the time for it between working full time, and then coming home to be a full-time mom and wife. Plus, because I'm so busy, I eat whatever I can get my hands on, or whatever takes the least amount of time to put together. Does anyone have any advice? I feel on the verge of breaking down.
