Infant Swimming Resource is a great program with a 100% safety rating that teaches self-rescue skills for aquatic environments to children 6 months and up. Students 6 to 12 months of age are generally taught to hold their breath under water, rollback and float plus call and wait for help. Generally, 1 to 6 year olds are taught to hold their breath under water, swim a short distance, roll back to float (breath and rest while floating), flip back over and swim a short distance again ~ all while searching for an exit from the water. This "swim-float-swim" sequence is reapeated until either the child exits the water or becomes tired. In the event the child becomes fatigued, they will rollback into their float and wait for help while resting and breathing.
