We first met with Cathy at the OnPoint Learning Center almost two years ago. My daughter had just turned 9 and completed the 3rd grade in public school. The teacher had recommended my daughter be retained because her reading comprehension was below a 1st grade level and other issues with "immaturity".
We had my daughter tested at a vision correction center. In their words, my daughter was "Baffling. We've never had a child score so high on IQ yet so profoundly below grade level on all the skills tests. We think we can help your daughter and we'd like to try a 30 week program of correction." Their lack of confidence led me to believe there had to be a better option.
I spent over an hour talking/listening with Cathy long distance and couldn't wait to meet her. She understood my daughter. She knew things without me having to explain. She was confident that she could help my daughter and boy did she ever.
My daughter went from a pre-school level of comprehension in reading to devouring the Twilight series which is a Jr. High level. The transition was not immediate, we had our work cut out for us but the transition has been amazing. A child who couldn't read for 5 minutes without getting sick to her stomach now reads for hours on end and gets mad when the book is taken away.
I challenge you to read the Gift of Dyslexia by Ron Davis and see if your child isn't described. I know I cried multiple times because so many things became clear. Cathy helped us learn and implement the tools that Davis has created. We are forever grateful.
