Children from 6 months to 1 year old learn to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back & float unassisted, and to rest and breathe until help arrives.

Children 1 - 6 years old learn to hold their breath underwater, swim with their head down, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe, then roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, crawl out or be rescued by an adult.

ISR instructors are carefully screened & selected and once accepted, must undergo a minimum of 60 hours of supervised in-water training plus education and testing in subjects such as child psychology, physiology, and behavioral science. Plus, every ISR instructor must complete re-certification annually and remain insured in order to maintain his or her affiliation with the program.
