Business description (provided by the business owner):

I am a doula in San Francisco; I support women in labor. I am comfortable in all birth settings (hospital, home, birth center) and I strongly support each pregnant woman's right to form her own approach to birth. Providing support, education and comfort to pregnant women and their partners is one of my greatest joys. I cover the entire Bay Area and my fee is negotiable.

I have 2 children - a boy who is 6 and a daughter who will soon be 3. Lisa was with us for the birth of our daughter and she was a godsend. I had had terrible back labor when my son was born and I wanted to be more prepared and grounded should it happen again with our daughter. And it did! My husband was fantastic, but it can be very stressful to talk someone through extremely painful contractions for hours on end. Having Lisa there was a great source of comfort to us both. She knew exactly when to step in and exactly when to step back. She was calm, encouraging, and helped me focus through the contractions. She was also a great intermediary between us and the nurses, when we weren’t exactly all ears. Our daughter was born some 12 hours later and Lisa never left my side. I would absolutely recommend her. She is a great well of knowledge and adores what she does and it shows. She made the birth of our daughter very special and for that I will always be grateful!

As a first time mom, Lisa helped us through the labor and birth of our little girl a year and a half ago. I think of her as such an integral part of our birthing experience! Before the birth, we spoke with Lisa over and over again about the kind of birth I wanted to have. She asked me a lot of questions that made me consider things that I never would have thought of and helped me form my birthing plan. She was a wealth of information, without being judgmental in any way. When the big day came, Lisa was so incredible. I had back labor and she helped make me comfortable with her strong hands constantly massaging my back with counter pressure. I don’t know how she did it for so many hours! She was emotionally supportive and encouraging and helped me realize that I could do it! Lisa worked really well with my midwife – being attentive to me but not getting in my midwife’s way. She was amazing and I had such a great birth experience with her. I strongly recommend her!

I am not sure how I would have made it thru the birth of my daughter without Lisa by my side. She kept me calm, focused and comforted for what ended up being almost 3 days of labor. I highly recommend Lisa for any birthing experience! She was great while we were at home, and then did an amazing job as well once we got to the hospital. Lisa is familiar with both hospital and home births and is comfortable in any birth setting. Lisa is very intuitive and does a great job of reading the needs of the mother and finding ways to make the experience the best for everyone. I can't say enough good things about her!!
