I am a local coordinator for Cultural Care Au Pair in Chicago. I provide local support to host families and au pairs in my group via phone, email and in person; act as a source of information on this U.S. Department of State-regulated program; organize monthly meetings for my au pairs, organize host family events.

Au pairs are 18- to 26-year-old women (and men) from other countries who have a minimum of 200 hours of childcare experience, at least an average level of English, background checks, and reference checks. They come here with a desire to improve their English and experience American culture while taking care of your children.

Au pairs can work up to 45 hours per week and 10 hours per day on a flexible basis; they must have 1 1/2 consecutive days off per week and one full weekend per month; they receive two weeks of paid vacation; they can do light housekeeping related to your children. Au pairs provide live-in childcare, so you must have a room with a closing door for them.

Families must be interested in the idea of cultural exchange and be prepared to accept the au pair as a member of their family. The current average cost to host an au pair is approximately $320/week.
