Your Treadmill- Rants and Raves PLEASE

I've wanted a treadmill for years now and am finally getting ready to take the plunge. I am so overwhelmed by all the brands and specific models. I have no idea what to buy, and the money is a big deal to me. Our budget is approx $500 and are debating buying a used model thru craigslist versus new in store. I somewhat lean towards a new one, but am open (haven't found much on craigslist yet).

My hubby and I plan to walk on high incline and jog on it as well. It will probably be somewhat heavy use. Please tell me which treadmill you have and what you like/don't like about it. We don't have a bbb account to see how they have been reviewed, so am trying to just research in every other possible way. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

If you don't mind, please be as specific as to which model, where you got it, how much it cost, etc... Again, only if you feel comfortable sharing. Thanks!

RESPONSE- I had an elliptical that I never used. While it sat in my home, I went to the gym 5 days a week to use their treadmill. So yes, I know I will use it. I love treadmills, and for me, prefer it over an elliptical.

If you decide to buy used, I've really found the website www.napervilleyardsales.com helpful. It seems to give more info than craigslist.

Good luck!

We have a Nordic track that we bought five years ago so I don't think they still make the same model. We spent around 1300.00. I like it because it has a fan. What I don't like is that it makes noise when we run. I am not a heavy runner but my husband is and trained for marathons on it. It is probably time to replace it.

Prior to that we had a treadmill that we spent around 500.00 and it got beat into the ground and really was not a good option for heavy use. It would have been okay for my use but not for my husband.

We purchased them both at sears. Sorry I am not more specific. Good luck.

Hey I hate ellipticals too.. I love my treadmill. It's a Nordic track and I use it all the time.. the fold up is fairly slim and fits into the front hall closet and with the wheels is pretty easy to drag out, use, fold back up and put away:)

Just a thought...I purchased a NordicTrac fold up treadmill from Sears. It was the floor model. It didnt have a box. It was a 1,900 dollar item that I paid 700 bucks for. I purchased the 90 buck, 2 year warranty. That treadmill has seen a few people in my family. (I currently have no room for it) My sister has it now...I probably will see it again in the future. It is a well built, almost gym quality item.
My point is to look at Sears, Academy and the lot to see what they will sell right off of their showroom floor. Many will still offer a warranty.

BTW, I purchased this still running treadmill 8 years ago.

I bought my Nordic track C2500 from a Sears Outlet store for $750 and bought the extended warranty. It has IFIT, a fan, IPOD dock, up to 12% incline, 16 different preprogrammed workouts, and a 60 in long belt. I believe the retail price was $1599. I love my treadmill.

My husband and I purchased a Sole (I think the model is 900 - anyway it's been discontinued and i believe its equivalent is the 1000) from Dick's Sporting Goods on sale. It's a great treadmill....I did a lot of online research and I found that it was a decent buy for the price. In addition, it works very similar to a gym quality treadmill, and (very important for me) it is actually pretty quiet (that whirring sound some treadmills make drives me nuts). Finally, it runs very smooth, with just a little give to soften the impact on my knees. I really like it and I use it quite a bit.

I bought this treadmill about a year ago, here's the link, http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00624955000P?prd... and its FANTASTIC!! I love it, it's around $600.00, Nordic Track. It's built very well, has incline, has IFit (which I haven't used yet), but basically like a personal training program, and has built in Ipod speakers. It's gym quality at a great price. If your looking for something solid, made well, this is really good. So glad I could rave about something on here!!! I purchased it at Sears online & they set everything up too!

I have a smooth 4,25 treadmill - the base folding model. I apid around $700 for it new, they don't sell them anymore - their new base model looks much better - and is on offer for $800 ish - smooth is consistently rated top in it's category for reliability, so I would go for one of those - may be hard to find one second hand though.
it has an incline - which I don't use, coz it's not power, and who wants to stop and manually raise and lower the thing?! I wish it had a cup holder, a fan or an ipod speaker holder - those are things, which if I did over, I would pay a little more for.

this website helped me choose, my bed is 50 by 18, and I kind of wish I had gone with a slightly wider one - so bear that in mind, but I am a big girl!

The first person wasn't very helpful were they? lol, I have had mine for 2 years, and I use it during the summer when it is really hot, or the winter when it's really cold - the rest of the year I don't use it.

she is right about amazon though - they do have reviews you can read on there.

Have you ever had a treadmill before?
Do you REALLY think you will use it????
We had one.... and well, it just sat there... collecting dust and being a hanger for stuff.

I would buy it new.... not used. You wouldn't know what/if anything is wrong with it or how the previous owner cared for it... and there would be no 'return' policy or manufacturer warranty.

If you go to Amazon... you can see Treadmills there, AND read the reviews of it... of which there are many.

How about an Elliptical machine?

I had a very expensive treadmill and it became a dumping ground. I sold it and bought a water rower - BEST BEST thing I ever bought. The whole family uses it and it is very peaceful. They come in a variety of woods and are a complete body workout, without taxing your bones and joints.
