Your Engagement/wedding Rings...

I never take mine off.

My husband will take his off when he's working with equipment where it might be dangerous (either for his finger or for the ring!).

I only take my off in the last month of pregnancy because of swelling. My ring is simple so it doesn't get in the way, but mostly if I took it off frequently I would lose it for sure...or knock it down the drain...or down a vent...it's my lot in life so I keep it on my finger!

I pretty much leave mine on all of the time. I just use jewelry cleaner to remove residue, etc.

I bathe and sleep with mine on. I take them off when I have to do some messy cooking, like patting ground meat or sectioning bulk meat into smaller containers, kneading dough, etc. Come to think of it I have yet to see my husband take off his ring other than to just look at it. He does everything with his on, even change the oil on the cars....

After 18 years I only wear it if I'm putting on make-up. If I'm running around and doing errands I don't bother with putting it on. With the economy as bad as it is in this area I rather not be robbed for my rings. I have also stopped doing my four mile walk/run since I don't feel safe going out with my cell phone and ipod since there has been so many robberies lately.

Often I wear a fake set depending on where I'm going. I worked in a fine jewelry store for five years and learned that trick from some of our customers that did a lot of traveling.

I never wear mine. I used to think it was so important, but after a while it lost its importance to me. Now, by importance I don't mean special meaning, b/c byall means it is very special and important to me, but as far as "status" it has lost its importance. I don't need people to know I am married by wearing a ring.

My husbands job does not allow him to wear any type of jewelry, inlcuding wedding rings, and since he stopped wearing his, about a year after that is when I stopped wearing mine. I used to freak out about him not wearing his, but then one day he told me "look... I don't need a ring at work to show you that I love you. I am here everyday for you and our family and me being here is my proof of love". And I believe that. Also, I don't think a wedding ring is going to stop a person from cheating either. If a person is going to do it... they will do it.

Now, our family totally disagrees with us, haha. But, I guess my husband and I have been together since we were 17 years old and are about to have baby # 3. I just tell them a wedding ring didn't do all that, hehe.

I never take off my wedding ring. It's on me all the time. THe ONLY time I take it off is to have it cleaned. I don't even think about it. Sometims I wish I did (like when dealing with raw meat), but by the time I think about it my hands are already yucky.

The only time I would take mine off is to clean it. It's get cleaned and then goes right back on. As far as everything else - bathe, sleep, exercise, etc in them. So, it's pretty close to never taking them off. Why? - I guess I just don't feel a need to take it off.

i haven't worn mine in years. i don't wear jewelry, i wore it in the beginning but then i found it distracting so it stays in my jewelry box. my husband doesn't wear his wedding band for the same reason. we spend a lot of time gardening and he used to take off put it on until it became too much of a hassle.

I pretty much always leave my wedding band on, unless I'm doing something really disgusting or unsafe (like hard labor on a house where it could get caught, or where it might get scratched). I take my engagement ring off more often because it is an opal and should not be gotten wet. I really shouldn't even wear it to wash my hands, but that would just be too much for me, so I take it off to bathe/shower, wash dishes, mop, clean anything really, and sometimes forget to put it back on. I admit I stopped wearing my rings during my first pregnancy when my fingers swelled a bit but I wore them on a chain around my neck. I try to always wear my engagement ring during the day, though, unless I am doing something that I shouldn't with it on. It does make my husband sad when he sees I'm not wearing them (understandably) as the ONLY time in almost 7 years he has not worn his wedding band was for a few weeks when he had some kind of reaction on his ring finger.

I do recommend having one special place you always put it when you take it off. I thought I lost mine one night and it was awful. Thankfully it only got bumped underneath a book.

I leave mine on. A jeweler told me you can clean them with tooth paste & a tooth brush. so thats what I do.
You can also get them cleaned in the mall. There may be a small fee. Not sure bc I always just clean mine myself.
I only take it off if I'm mixing meatloaf or meat balls with my hands.

I wear my wedding band most of the time. I have a wide and thick wedding band, so sometimes I take it off when I sleep - it's like I need my finger to breathe for a little while. My ring w/ my ruby I only wear when I leave the house. If I wear it at home I will snag something or I will knock it around.

The ONLY time I took mine off was when I was working on the wheel (clay spinning acts like sandpaper, ever porcelain), and then I clipped them on a special necklace... or twice a year to get them cleaned.

Then my husband started cheating on me, and I haven't worn them in years. For the first year or two, I'd put them on for family events, to avoid questions, but I don't even bother with that anymore.

They live in a martini glass on a shelf now.

The broken vows I could live with and still wear them, the broken heart, not so much.

Well I wear mine out all the time. I never wear them in the tub, just like you I don't want soap film on them and I don't want them to slip off! I don't wear them to bed because I don't want to hit myself in the face with a diamond, not fun I think:) I usually do wear them at home because I am a stay at home mom and if I didn't I would never have them on:)

I take my rings off a lot, not because I'm not proud of them but because of what I'm doing.

I never wear my rings (wedding, engagement, and right-hand rings) when I am doing cardio or lifting. I don't like the way it feels plus I don't want to smash the metal against my fingers and possibly pinch something. I don't wear them when I am in the shower, if I'm preparing a meal which would get my hands dirty (I don't want food bits in between the diamonds) and I don't wear them when I am sleeping either.

I just have one engagement/wedding ring. I take it off to cook and bathe. Occasionally I sleep without it if I took my shower right before bed.

My husband never takes his off but I never wear it around the house. It has diamonds on the band and I don't want to inadvertantly damage it. I almost never wear my engagement ring except for a special occasion. I always wear my wedding band when I leave the house though.

I take off my engagement/wedding ring to shower or wash the dishes, but I sleep with them on so I don't forget to put them on in the morning if I happen to be in a rush. Ever since I got pregnant however, my fingers have become to swollen to wear them, so I only put them on (if I can) when I go out. I don't see the point of wearing them around the house and risk getting them stuck! But once the pregnancy swelling goes down, I will continue to wear them regularly.

I find no reason to take mine off. They fit snugly, although they do rotate a lot when my hands are cold. It isn't very sanitary to wash your hands with them off then put them on. The rings are dirty too. So during the day they should be washed/left on during your hand washing times.

In these circumstances I would say as long as you have them in a safe place they can't fall out of then do what you want with them.

The wedding band goes closest to your heart therefore it goes on first the engagement ring second if your husband to be puts the rings on you during your ring ceremony they should be on correctly during your pictures.

I have been married for 17 years and engaged for 2 years prior to that. In all that time, I would only take off my rings if they needed to be cleaned, about once or twice a month at most.

I take my ring off as soon as I come home. I find that cooking and doing other things that the ring gets dirtier. I usually put it on when I am getting ready to go to work or out after I get dressed.

My rings are sodered (sp?) together, so there is no wearing one or the other. The diamond on my engagement ring sits in a pretty high-profile setting, and my husband has complained from the beginning that it scratched him at night. So I take them off before bed and put them back on after my shower in the morning. I also take them off a lot when I am cooking, especially if I am handling raw meat. I don't want anything gross getting caught in the crevices. Many times if I take them off for cooking, they stay off (on my ring holder by the kitchen sink) until morning. If I am being lazy on the weekends and don't take a shower first thing in the morning, I will ocassionally make it out of the house without them. It really bothers me not to have them on away from home. It's not about "status" for me, as one person commented. I find that wearing it reaffirms my commitment to my husband and to the relationship. It's a constant reminder to me about the vows I took. I would NEVER cheat on my husband, so it's definitely not about that. But after 11 years of marriage, with plenty of ups and downs, I think it's important to have the constant reminder to me, my husband and to anyone who cares to notice that we still work everyday to maintain our loving relationship.

I do like the idea of "fake" set. Or I have a friend who is a dentist, who talked her husband into buying her a simple band that she can wear to work. That's a great idea too!

Mine comes off if I am doing something really messy (mainly something like making meatloaf). Or if I am REALLY mad at my husbad to the point I think what is the point anymore, I've only done that once though. And it made its point. Other than that - never. I feel naked without them on.

I take my engagement ring off to clean it or if I am going to be doing something (example.... making scarecrows a couple weeks ago), I will remove it and store it in the safe. If my engagement ring, watch or earrings are not being worn for any reason, they are all in the safe.

I do have my jewelry insured to the tune of $1000/yr and I never, ever, remove my diamond for someone to "clean", look at, etc.

As for my wedding band, it will not come off. I have plenty of room between my knuckle and the ring is loose, however, it won't budge over my knuckle. I plan to have it cut off sometime in the near future and resized for safety reasons.

I leave mine on pretty much all the time... Really the only time I take mine off is to clean it and to get my hands in things like play dough, bread dough, raw meat, etc... Goopy stuff that can get really gross squished into a ring.

My rings though are 2 seperate rings. A plain gold band and a gold band with one stone. So there are less places for goop to build up than with some welded, multi stone, designed, etc rings...

I do take off my engagement ring for a few months when pregnant (possible swelling fingers) and after baby is born (don't want to accidentally scratch)...

I almost started taking the ring off right after getting it to wash my hands... But I was worried about forgetting to put it back on while in a public rest room and also figured that if my hands were dirty and needed washing... The rings that were ON that hand needed it too!...

Married 16 years, and I never take them off except to clean them. They fit rather tightly, so swimming or the ocean has never been a concern. I never feel the need to take them off... they are a part of me, just as my marriage is. To me, they're not jewelry that I change with my outfits or mood. They just are part of me. I don't think it was ever a conscious decision to leave them on or take them off... once they went on, they stayed on. There are only 3 times they have ever really been off... the 2 times I was pregnant I was advised to leave them off (finger swelling), and right now, my engagement ring had a prong break off the other day and I need to get it to the jewelers to have it fixed, but the wedding band is still on. That's it.

I remove my rings when I get home at night. This way I never worry about damaging them in cleaners or while I work around the house. I have an extra wide wedding band which if I don't remove frequently for my finger to air dry, results in a wonderful moldy smell on my hands. I have made it a habit to always put on my rings when I leave the house. If I ever forget, I turn around to grab them. I have even made my hubby go back for them. To make the habit easier, I have a nice closed container in my kitchen window (near the exit) and in our bathroom (for morning routine). My hubby on the other hand has never once removed his ring since our wedding day which secretly makes me feel special since I never asked him one way or the other about his ring wearing. Of course, men's rings tend to simpler in design and more wear resistant.

I take mine off when I'm cleaning. Sometimes on hot days my fingers swell and the ring gets tight, so I might take it off then, especially to sleep. I'm a newlywed so I still love my ring :) But I plan to always wear it, even though my husband said he wouldn't be offended if I didn't. I just feel like we are not rich people, and he spent a lot of money on it, so the least I can do is wear it. Also, my mom never got an engagement ring, and I just figured only people in a higher social class than us ever got them, so that makes me more appreciative that I actually have one to wear.

I never ever take my rings off and not even to clean them! I leave them on and brush them with an extra tooth brush. I have large rings and I'm petrified I would lose them or someone would swipe them. I also never wanted to "upgrade" my rings. I wanted to have the same ring he proposed with and the same ring we exchanged our vows with. And Sunday is our first anniversary! :o)

You'll get varying answers from one extreme to another.

For me, I wore mine more often before than I do now. It was all new and exciting and never understood why some took theirs off so much more often. Well, after being married for 15 years my ring means as much to me as before, but I also realize it isn't the true symbol of our marriage so taking it off more often than before is just fine.

I take off my rings when I shower. I've heard too many horror stories of rings going down drains no matter what precautions are made, by men and women. With weight gain and loss I take it off now and again if it feels snug or gets a bit sweaty. I wear it at night. I always wear it when I leave the house as I feel naked without it. But I do take it off sometimes when I'm at the computer because when my fingers are stretching constantly to type the ring can get uncomfortable.

I have my rings soldered together, partly due to the band being a wrap around the engagement ring and partly due to talking to women in the past whose rings would rub together over the years and have to be buffed out. And the spinning around in different directions didn't sound appealing either, lol.

I think you should wear them as often or as little as you'd like. They're yours. Just be sure to have safe places in the house that you set them when you do take them off.

I never sleep with my rings on. The diamond setter had told me it is a bad habit to sleep with your ring because over time you could losen the setting depending on how you sleep, I have a tendency to tuck my hands under my pillows or my legs when I sleep in a fetal position. I do put my rings on every morning and feel naked with out them. But the rings I wear now are my wedding and anniversary band, I pull out the engagement ring for special occassions. My hubs takes off his wedding band only to put lotion on and then back on the finger, he doesn't like to not have it on him. My aunt when she needed surgery they want you to remove all jewlery, she refused as her surgery could have been life threatening and she didn't want to die without her band on her finger at time of surgery she was married 25 years and of course she was fine, but her ring had so much sentimental value, I don't blame her for putting up the fight.

The only people I know who NEVER take off their rings, are those with plain solid bands. They don't require the cleaning that engagement sets and stone enhanced rings do. I wear my set all the time, but I take it off to clean it. The only time I didn't "wear it" was when I was swollen during pregnancy. Then I put the set on a gold chain and wore them as a necklace.

My mom has never taken hers off... Ever. She has a simple plain gold band. So no need to remove it for anything.

I know some lines of work might require removal of jewelry for safety reasons though...

I take mine off to shower, but that is about it. I take it off then since it will slide off when wet sometimes, even though it is sized correctly. I had it cleaned once when I was getting a new watch battery and the girl asked what in the world I did, since she hadn't seen one with that much dirt and grime caked under the diamond in awhile and it took a couple of extra times through the ultrasonic to get it cleaned. At the time I worked in a vet's office, lots to clean up here an there, but gardening and even just general wear seems to get it fairly dirty underneath.

i only take mine off when doing outside work (to avoid losing the diamond) my cousin only wears her when she and her husband are outside the house (when she goes to work, family reunions, etc)

it's your ring...if you don't have insurance on it i would be more picky about what i would do with it, if you do have insurance, KEEP IT they'll replace/repair it for free depending on the insurance plan you get.

fyi most well known jewlery stores will clean it for free you can just walk up and say i need my ring cleaned, and it doesn't have to be the place you bought it from

I never take mine off! I've taken them off a handful of times for cleaning and one time when I kneaded dough. I usually wear gloves when I clean, and I don't do any types of crafts, so that's not a problem for me. I also wear gloves when I garden, so again -it keeps dirt from getting encrusted in my rings. I know people who do a wide variety of wearing and taking off their rings.

I have only taking mine off for resizing and the last three months of all three of my pregnancies as they just didn't fit anymore...lol The last time I took off a ring other then that was in a public place and now it's gone :( so needless to say I won't do that again... I am just glad it wasn't my wedding ring that went bye bye.

I really only wear any of my rings if I am leaving the house. I don't wear them to clean, bathe, shower, sleep. I used to only take them off at night before bed and put them back on after my morning shower. Now I rarely wear them around the house. I got in this habit when my son was a baby and my engagement ring kept scratching my little guy.

I think in the beginning I kept them on, but I take them off every night before going to bed. I have a dish that I place them in. I also remove them when I am cooking and have to touch ground meat or anything that requires hand mixing. It keeps them cleaner. I don't like to leave home without them, but I will remove them when doing work or cooking at home.

I used to take my ring off all the time the first time I was married. I worked in physical therapy and used a "goop" likes substance (almost like lard) to do massages, and I always took the ring off for that. I also worked with a number of other things that wouldn't have been good for the ring. Once I was home it just depended on what I was doing.
I remember one time I left it on my key chain on my keys in a desk at work all weekend. HAHAHA my ex was pissed. =)

I will take off my engagement ring ocassionally because it can get in the way of doing various activities. However, my wedding ring never comes off. Even when I had surgery, it stayed on, I made them tape it.

I never take mine off except to put lotion on my hands, to occasionally clean the engagement ring (a sapphire w/diamonds), or if I'm going to have my hands in something really messy, like flour, while cooking or crafting. Other than that, they've been on for 7 years!

I take off my wedding ring when i wash the dishes, put lotion on, shower and when i sleep because it gets dirty and dull with all those things. i know that at some jewlery stores they sell this liquid to clean your jewlery. I also have two wedding bands that i wear daily to work or i mis match the days i wear it. As long as i have a ring on that shows im married. then im good... =)

When I first got engaged I would take it off to shower, but would sometimes forget to put it back on... Once I made my (now husband) drive it to work so I could wear it. I felt so guilty! Now I've been married 6 years... I never take if off... (except when I was hugely pregnant and had to take it off or get it cut off...) You'll get used to it... (unless you're in a field where you have to constantly have to wash your hands or do something messy....)

I think it depends on the person, My daughter takes hers off to wash dishes and take a bath. Sometimes she forgets to put them back on and he gets upset with her. hahaha,,,,,his mother has had hers on since the day she got them...she said she has never taken them off. So I do believe it is up to the individual. and the soap that gets in them is a mess and lotion is even worse. One thing I would make sure of, I would have a little dish on my dresser away from the sinks to put them while I was bathing. That way you know where they are and they wont go down the drain.....

I remember when I first recieved my engagement ring, taking so much care...staring at it and thinking how beautiful it was, taking it off when I washed my hands so it wouldn't get soap scum on it. I guess as with many other things, the newness of it wears off eventually.

I stopped wearing mine when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I had to wash my hands A LOT where I worked and I developed eczema right under the bands. Every time I would get my hands wet it would reoccur and was so itchy I couldn't stand it. I had to abandon wearing them for the rest of my pregnancy and for a while afterward. I wouldn't wear it to work because I couldn't avoid washing my hands, and I also wouldn't wear them at home to allow the skin time to breathe. That habit has stuck now and I only wear my rings when I go out of the house. I still love them, though, and would be really upset if I ever lost them or they became damaged.

I never remember to take my rings off before making meatloaf. While pregnant I wore my wedding band on my pinkie and bought another ring to wear for my engagement ring. Now I've gained a little weight since the wedding and the baby and I couldn't get my wedding band off if I tried. Let's hope I don't get mugged. LOL.

My wedding ring is just a plain band. I pretty much never take it off. Maybe once in a while to clean it. When I am pregnant I sometimes move it to my pinky finger at some point, or leave it off.

My diamond engagement ring is another story. I NEVER sleep or shower in it, and I don't wear it "around the house", only when I am going out, and sometimes not even then if I am just running errands or whatever.

Engagement ring I wore the year we were engaged and now I only wear for special occassions - it snags things for day-to-day use plus I want to keep it pretty!!!

Wedding band went on eight years ago next week and has only been off when advised due to late-pregnancy swelling with my boys. I missed it when it was off and feel that it really has become a part of me. My husband boasts that he has never had his off other than for shining it - - - even through his deployment to Iraq.

Everyone has their personal feeling about these things and I am sur eyou will figure out yours too!

I wear mine all day and take it off at night when I sleep or doing dishes and gardening. I wear 3 rings in each hand so they all come off then. I keep a ring holder in my bathroom. I've been married for 10 years and have always done that.
