You Know Those Hanging Shoe Rack Things?

Is yours over the door or hangs from a bar in the closet? (or whereever) Pros/Cons on either?

I'm forcing myself to deal with the issue that my shoe storage system is pretty pathetic. Currently, I throw them in a laundry basket in the corner of my closet, and I admit it looks rather disorganized.

What can I do next?

I'm a shoe-holic, so I have both varieties. The one that hangs on the closet rod is not as functional and the weight of the shoes pulls on the hanger piece and has caused it to come aloose a couple of times. I had to reinforce that. The one over the door works alright but doesn't look all that grand when the door is closed in that room. I put my bed on lifts and got some that hold multiple pairs that go under the bed and I like that one the best.

I have both those types and prefer the one that hangs over the door because I can see the shoes better in that one.

I have a large closet and a space that is hard to use so I use the ones that attach to the rod. I have shoe organizer and sweater one. I love them for sorting things, not just shoes!!

So, I vote yes. I got them for about $10 each, they are a heavy canvas type material.

The shoe hangers are nice. BUT they are not super strong so if you are constantly bumping it as you come in and out of the room it will eventually be bent so that the racks don't stay in the holes. This is the worse case scenario though. Mine have lasted a long time.

We have one on our front closet where we keep coats and we have another one by our garage door that we use as a utility closet. It works great for us. The kids use the one at the front door and we (adults) use the one by the garage door. It really helps us b/c shoes get put away right as we walk in the house.

My husband put one of the wall racks in the garage, right before you walk in the door - everyone just puts their shoes on it. It's really too small for men's shoes, but they don't have that many anyway. Great for kids AND company!!! I do have another sit on the floor wire one in the bottom of my closet just because I have so many more pairs than everyone else - but they're the ones I rarely wear.

I do the same as you, problem is my feet are so large that the standard storage things are too small for "standard women's shoes." But I do use the under bed ones to store my son's blocks under his bed :).

My mom uses her over the door O. all the time. She has for years.
It looks organized. It's a little bulky & hinders the door a wee bit.

I have a wall length closet to myself, and when my shoes start to "pile up"? I know it's time to get rid of some.
Personally, I wouldn't put them back on the rack. But that's me. :)

you actually have several options. cubbie comparments, shoe racks on top of the closet (thats what we have), shoe racks on the bottom, hanging from the closet clothes bar. i recently saw the last one where it was a cylinder shape that rotated.

some won't fit all shoes. I had one and it fit my flip flops and flats and some of my tennis shoes, but no wedges and none of my hubby's shoes would fit. I throw my bigger shoes (boots, tennis shoes, ect) in a laundry basket, then have a sterilite container with all the smaller ones on a shelf.

We started with one of the over-the-door things, but my husband didn't like the way it would CLUNK whenever we closed or opened the door.

So, we got a couple Closetmaid 24" cube things, and have been really happy with them:

Both my kids have one. They hang on the back of their bedroom door. But they don't use them much for shoes. They will stick a pair of flip flops in them or something, but generally, they use them to hold other stuff:
hair brushes, DSs and other electronics, charging cores, wallets, cameras and camera bags, game cartridges (DSlite), BBs, and who knows what else.
They love them, and so do I, b/c it helps with the clutter in their rooms.

I used to have an over the door wire rack. Liked it.

Then I had a wire rack that sat on the floor of my closet. Liked that.

Then I found a wood cubed box w/9 cubbies. AWESOME. LOVE THIS ONE. The cubbies are big enough to house 2 pairs of shoes each. They sit on the floor of my closet. Bought them a long time ago from a store that is out of business buy you could google it. You might be able to find it at a bath/household type of store that will sell them.

I like mine hanging from the bar in the closet. It guarantees that the door will still shut tight and it doesn't get in the way. I also think the over the bar kind is better for holding other accessories, like scarves/shawls, small purses, hats, etc.

They work. Mrs. On Purpose has two.

Hint - hang them on rarely used doors (linen closet is good).

Otherwise everytime you close the bedroom door they bang around.

some are very flimmsee ( SP ?) so make sure you get a good quality one. I choose the ones that are individual under the bed. Fits bulky boots and high heels too for my daughter dress up supply....

I have a couple of those hanging shoe rack things. They hang from the closet bar. My closet is small (old house), and it has sliding doors.

They work well for me because nearly all my shoes are off the floor, making the closet neater and my shoes cleaner. Behind the hanging equipment, I have a little floor space for my most seasonal shoes - for instance, my crocs (garden shoes) and my snow boots - and a couple of pairs of tall dress boots. Everything else hangs neatly out of the way.

The con in the mix is something I can't do much about, really. The hanging shoe racks take up space that clothing might use. But every closet, big or small, has a limit on its space. I keep seasonal clothing in boxes under the bed when it's the wrong season. When the closet is too full of clothing, I have to give some to charity. That's all there is to it. With shoes, there are only so many pockets. If I want another pair of shoes and there isn't room, I have to decide what to give up.

I can't say I enjoy that discipline, but it hasn't killed me yet, and it makes me think before I buy.

I like ours BUT My husband has pretty big shoes so we don't always have every pair side by side together. That part is a pain but it is a space saver. Might be something to look out for when buying one, may not be an issue with all of them.
