Yoga While Ttc and in Early Pregnancy?

Ok, I know about prenatal yoga but it seems more geared towards women who are farther along in pregnancy. If any of you practice yoga what do you recommend for while ttc, during the time you don't know if you're pregnant or not and in early pregnancy? I used to do yoga and stopped for several years. I've just had the chance to get started again and I love how much more energized and positive I feel in general than before so I hope to continue. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

I did yoga while TTC and throughout both my pregnancies. I just had to take it easy early in my pregnancies due to terrible "morning" sickness and fatigue. I also had some bleeding at about 6-7 weeks with both pregnancies and took a couple weeks off then. I agree with other posts that it made labor easier, but it also helped with discomforts of pregnancy (swelling, etc.) and made me feel more comfortable in my ever changing body. I also agree with the post about letting the instructor know you're pregnant or TTC so he or she can help you with modifications if you're not already familiar with them or use prenatal books/cards/videos at home.

For sure. Do yoga.

In the Twin Cities we have a yoga studio dedicated to mom's, families, and pregnancy. It's called Blooma, and it's amazing. Maybe there is a similar place in the Chicago area? It's worth looking into if you want to start a yoga practice.

During my first pregnancy, I was practicing while TTC, and throughout my entire pregnancy. I also took prenatal classes during my second and third pregnancies. I was at a yoga class on my due date every time... and at yoga the day before my third was born. I highly recommend it for helping during labor. I felt very focused and strong and able to have my second and third babies without any medications.

Good luck!

A good instructor will help you out if you tell him/her that you are ttc and/or pregnant. Inversions are a big no-no. I think that any pose that is a no no while pregnant should be avoided, too. We've had several pregnant moms in our yoga class and our teacher is always telling them how to modify their poses for pregnancy. However, I went to other classes where the teachers just do their practice in front of the class and never walk around and correct the students. You should avoid a a practice like that. Call around.

You can keep doing regular yoga while ttc without any worry. You should be able to do quite a bit of it once you're pregnant. It's when we get bigger and our abdomens begin to stretch that some positions are uncomfortable or not recommended. But, early on you will be fine.

Yoga and any other exercise you've been accustomed to doing all along is fine during pregnancy. Your belly will let you know when you can't do it anymore. : )) I would have loved to continue doing yoga during my current pregnancy but I have so many leg cramps and foot cramps and pain in my pelvic area that I just cannot but as long as you feel comfortable, keep it at.

Definitely continue with your regular yoga practice while you are ttc and in early pregnancy. I just made sure to tell my instructor once I was pregnant and she gave me appropriate modifications. I stayed in my regular yoga class and just avoided certain inversions, poses lying on my stomach and those lying flat on my back until I was well into my second trimester. I stopped doing things when they started to feel uncomfortable, just make sure you listen to your body and don't overdo it. Then I moved into a prenatal class and loved it. It was great exercise and relaxation and a great opportunity to bond with other mammas-to-be. Good luck!

I did yoga with my first and stayed in the reg class until I was about mid 2nd trimester when the baby was getting heavy enough to put some pressure on my spine when laying on my back. At that point, I stopped doing those poses and my teacher told me he would feel better with me being in a class who knew how to work more with pregnancy.

Doing yoga is great when you're pregnant. You can do normal yoga pretty much until you're showing and/or feel it's too hard to do without modifying, but don't strain or try to go above your level. Listen to your body and check with your instructor. There are certain moves you can start to avoid a little further along before switching to full blown prenatal style. Your instructor can guide you. As for when you're ttc, the more you do the better. It only helps your body.
