Yoga Question - Melrose,MA

I have been doing yoga about 6 months 2x a week and have become quite flexible. I am still of normal weight but appear more
"hippy." Could this be somehow from all the hip openers etc or is this unlikely and I need to up my cardio? It just doesn't seem that I have more fat there but I am definitely wider and I notice it in the mirror or walking by a reflection. My youngest is 18 mos; I am not pregnant..... Thanks!

What can I do next?

Are you sure your waist isn't getting smaller, thereby making your hips look bigger???

I'm not sure about the hip question, but if you're looking for a more cardio type yoga, try Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown. It should have you sweating.

It does seem unlikely, but I am no expert. I have't practiced in a few years, but did for about 4, I did power yoga in a hot room, and it was very rigorous and sweaty and felt great! (I miss it so much!). But, I would say that you may actually be forming some muscle in the hip area from the practice, and if you aren't doing much cardio, it could seem as if you are gaining there, but you wouldn't really be. Yogis are said to have the best bodies and especially butts! Have fun and enjoy the practice!
ps. you may be ready to advance to a more challenging type of yoga :)

You are most likely building muscle under your fat, you need to mix up your routine with cardio and small weight training, that way you can melt your fat and see that muscle youve been working on so diligently .

I just started jillian micheals yoga burn,,,,its a little high intensity, but may be something you could easily transition to.
