Yoga at Home
Hi Moms,
I'm looking for a recommendation for a good DVD or TV show where I can do yoga in my home. I've never tried it and think it would be good for stress relief but haven't been able to find a class that fits into my schedule. Also, have your kids tried yoga & did they like it? Thanks! Have a great day!

There are some good yoga programs on Comcast On Demand. We really liked one, then it was taken off so we bought it. It's Yoga on the Edge with Sara Ivanhoe. I really like it. She has a beautiful voice, I love the background music, she's on a pier in the Caribbean. Very relaxing.

I buy my work out videos form Collage Video. They have a HUGE selection, most of them are customer rated, the staff does many of them and can help, they have video clips on line and best of all you can return them after you have tried them, if you don't like them. I work out daily and when I can't go to the club these videos really save me. ps, I do aerobics and weights and find that kind of exercise wears me out better for stress and sleep, than stretching does.

Actually yoga is excellent for stress reduction if you are doing it correctly. But that said, I would take at least a couple of classes first so that you get some real instruction. The poses are such that you need to be sure you are doing them correctly (in my opinion). Good luck!

If you have kids you might have the Wii, get the wii fit or wii fit plus. it has yoga and lots of other fun things to do.
Our cable (comcast) has channel 222 and they have programs with yoga in them.
Good luck

I agree with Tracy about on demand. Also if you go to the yoga journal web-site they have lovely 20 minute segments you can follow. As a beginner they have an evening routine that is more of a stretch but a great introduction. I love yoga and have done it with my nephews and they loved it!

I too like the Gaiam DVD. There is something really soothing about it that makes you feel better that you did it.
I just invested in Wii Fit Plus and I have to say that I am surprised at how much I like it. I was a little skeptical but my husband was really excited about it. The overall program is really good -- keeps things interesting and fun. The yoga is excellent because it can measure your balance to correct your pose, which is essential with getting a good yoga workout. I used take classes where the instructor would come over to gently show us where to move to get into a better position. So this is like having a personal trainer with you when you have time to fit in your workout. If you have Wii, it's definitely worth getting the fit program.
Otherwise, don't forget to get a good mat to work out on. The kids would probably love working out with you. My guy is too young but is very curious about what we are doing. Hopefully he will enjoy working out with us too eventually. Just keep it fun and light.
Good luck!
