Yeast Rash in 2 Year Old

My daughter was recently on Augmentin for bronchitis and developed a horrible rash that looked a lot like a yeast rash and I did lotrimin for over a week and the rash has gone down in size especially right on her little area but the insides of her upper thighs still have that horrible looking rash with the raised bumps and it hurts her and the lotrimin just isnt working. Is there something else i should try or do i take her to the dr? Does it usually take some time for the rash to totally go away? I would think that the upper thigh would clear up before the vaginal area but it is right where her diaper meets her leg.

What can I do next?

If it ends up being yeast (after going to the doctor), there is a cream I would try. My son had a diaper rash and they did everything from steriods to a compounded diaper cream. I finally used Motherlove Thrush and Diaper Cream, and he cleared right up. We now always use it as his diaper cream and a nipple cream for me. While he will get the red marks on his thighs, after one or two changes with the cream, it is gone.

feed her some of the activia yogurt... it helped with my daughter... BUT i did finally take her to the dr after the same yeast rash was there for a full month (INSANE!) and the dr gave me a steroid cream and it made ALL the difference. Literally over night it was a huge differance! good luck!

Take her to a doctor, you don't want to chance the rash becoming a bacterial infection as well. My daughter used to get yeast infections in her diaper area and there is a cream that the doctor can give you that will help her in about two days. Also, the cream lasts for a long time and my doctor advised me to use it as necessary so I always had it on hand.

It sounds like you should probably take her to the doc, but for yeast infections I would definitly try acidophilius. It is what is in yogurt.. you can get it in liquid form at any health food store the higher the count the better. You could even just put some plain yogurt on the rash. When me and my son had thrush the acidophilius is what finally took care of it... not the $90+ dollars worth of meds from the doc!.. you might try leaving the diaper off as much as possible though.

This will sound crazy, but use baking soda in a bath, let her play for awhile. Or you can use it as a paste and put it on the rash, I have used this little trick with all three of my kids and it works great.

Hi S.,
My son had yeast and I took the natural route to get his bacteria balanced in his tummy with probiotic. Unfortuately antibiotic removes the good and bad bacteria and our bodies get out of balance. There is a chewable form of probiotic at vitamin cottage. My naturopathic doctor recommended 6 in the morning and 6 at night for 12 days for my 3 year old. It's all cleared up now. He had a rash on his head and mucus in his stool and he was very irritable as well. It's all cleared up now. Last month's issue of Cookie magazine had a whole write up on probiotics. Do some homework and ask you doctor about it.

TAKE HER TO THE DR AND GET IT DOCUMENTED!!!! I too am allergic to augmentin and got a horrible all over body rash after taking the first time. The 2nd time is supposed to be much worse and can be fatal because it can cause your airways to swell. Absolutely get it noted in her files that she had a reaction. And never, ever let her take augmentin again. There are other comparable anti-biotics that works just as well.

I would take her to the doctor. You actually could try yogurt if she is old enough for dairy products. That may get rid of the rash. She'll need to eat two yogurts a day. And they can be the regular kind. Don't go with the light, they don't have enough of the right enzyme. Good luck.
