Yeast Infection in the Mouth
Just wondering if any of you have had a yeast infection in your mouth. About 6 months ago I was given a strong antibiotic (leviquin ?) and 2 weeks later I got a horrible yeast infection in my mouth. Ever since then it gets better, then comes back. It is horrible! I got some expensive perscription losenges but it keeps coming back. I also try to limit my sugar intake & eat yogurt. If anyone has any other suggestions or cures, I would love to hear them
So What Happened?™
That oral yeast infection is so much harder to get rid of than the 'lower' type. I went to whole foods & got some yucky tasting probiotics & rinsed & drank it. It worked. Now I take a Kroger probiotic chewable (yummy) everyday. No more infection.

I have not personally had Thrush but I do know children who have had it. Yeast can be difficult to get rid of, but I though there was a mouth rinse that was needed to get rid of it. My mother had yeast and it took two doctors until she found the right doc to prescribe the right medication. A doctor actually biopsied my mother and had us scared to death thinking it was cancer. It was a yeast infection and was diagnosed by her dermatologist. Try a dermatologist and see if they can help you.

Ask your doctor for a liquid nystatin. It is a swish and spit medication. Does not taste the best, but it will be cleared up for good in lss than a week. Be sure to use it before bed and after brushing your teeth. It then can sit in the mouth over night and work it's magic. After 3 days of using it, be sure to toss your tooth brush and get a new one. Then at the end of the 7 days, toss it again and get a new one. Also for the first 3 days, place a little in a cup and soak the brush in it over night after brushing your teeth or all day after brushing your teeth. Also, do not know if you are doing any type of open mouth kissing, but you can spread it to a partner who will also need to be treated in that case. (See I guess I am an "old lady" asd that no longer is an activity of choice for me." If you are partaking in any type of oral sex activities, you also need to stop those until the infection clears. If you have been the performer during this time; also note that your partner may need a nystatin cream to treat his genitals. Hope you feel better soon.

You can pass it back and forth between people - and things you touch with your mouth. As another Mom has mentioned it's called "Thrush"... when kids get it you have to sterilizes bottle nipples, pacifiers, etc that comes in contact with it. See your doctor and ask them how you might be passing it back to yourself.

Check out the book called The Body Ecology Diet. It's all about naturally balancing out the good and the bad bacteria in your body. A couple of my friends have followed the plan because they were having bad candida (intestinal yeast issues) and vaginal yeast infections and it really helped them a lot.

I have had yeast in the mouth & they called in geographical tongue if memory serves. I was told that it usually doesn't get that out of hand cause our immune system keeps it in check, but not so with mine. The medicine they give for yeast, diflucan, is usually given as a one pill one time dose. I took 3 a day for a month and then one a day for two months before my levels of candida got back on the charts!! It cost me a small fortune btw, but I felt so much better. Haven't had the problem since and have no idea why it got out of hand to begin with other than multiplt antibiotic use for cryto tonsilitis. So, cut sugar, increase yogurt, and talk to your doctor about diflucan. Best of Luck.

I have never heard of an adult having a yeast infection in their mouth, however when a baby gets it, its called Thrush. I would definitely tell the dr that whatever you're using isn't working. My son had Thrush as a baby, and was resistant to the first meds, nystatin, it would start going away but never fully, then they brushed his mouth with a purple solution...very messy but it worked awesome. Another time, they gave him diflucan, that worked awesome. Make sure you are washing your hands, that's one thing they said to me. But also, I found out he was getting it from ____@____.com was quickly taken out of there. But I know they make diflucan for adults. You could ask your OB.
