Hello all Mom's
Yesterday while changing our daughter, my husband noticed what seem to be a little odor coming from her diaper area. She doesn't seem to be irritated, nor any splotchy redness. But she does have a little redness in her butt crack.(no bumps though) Is the odor a sign of a yeast infection? Or am I reading too much into this?
Thanks for any help and advice.
Angel

She could be dehydrated and her pee was stronger than usual.

You can google something about "baby yeast rash." From the pictures I've seen, it's pretty dramatic.

I always call my drs' office and talk to the nurses about my kid's health. They're helpful.

My girls get a little stinky once in awhile, sometimes my oldest doesn't wipe well enough and I'm sure I've missed a spot once in awhile when cleaning my youngest. I do the following for a day or so and if it gets worse or doesn't clear up then I go to the doc.

1. Wipe her again very well
2. Give her a good soak in the tub with water only (you could do this a couple of times in one day if you want)
3. Change her a little more frequently and keep her extra dry. Let her bottom air dry before putting the diaper back on or dry it w/a cloth. My daughter can't be left w/out a diaper, never fails she goes on my carpet, so I dry w/a cloth.

Try baking soda baths and letting her air dry as much as possible. If no better in few days, than see MD.

Probably not a yeast infection, give it a couple days. Make sure you clean the area well and put a little vaseline on her behind she should be fine. And of course if you don't see any improvement give your dr. a call.

If her urine smells funny, she could be dehydrated or check her blood sugar (sometimes diabetics have funny fruity smell to their urine or breath). Good luck.

it may be nothing, but giving your child a probiotic will clear it up. If you are unfamiliar with probiotics it is the friendly bacteria that is in our body that eats the yeast and other bad bacteria. If w have been on antibiotics or not eating right the balance is disturbed and sometimes the yeast can go crazy causing a yeast infection. Yogurt contains this friendly bacteria but no in high enough concentration. CVS sells Culturelle and whole foods has a whole range of different probiotics. Just open the capsule an give her half every few hours and then as maintenance half twice a day. YOu can mix in her drink, cool food, or just put directly in her mouth. This should be given especially after any antibiotic is given.

Anything is possible, but there is a good chance it is from moisture trapped there. Sometimes my kids' belly buttons would get a little red and irritated with an odor. I had it checked out once and the doc said that it is from trapped moisture. We just make sure we dry that spot and no problems except maybe on a really sweaty summer day.

Yes odor can be a sign of a yeast infection. Give the doc a call and they may suggest some cream or want to see her.

My daughter had horrible yeast infections - but they were on the OUTSIDE, not the inside. I was given a cream to put on her and she basically had to spend several hours a day naked so she could keep the area dry and not constricted in a diaper. She pretty much had this problem constantly until she was out diapers.

The doctor told me to not use babywipes and just use a wet washcolth - sometimes just with water and sometimes with baby soap - and let it air dry completely. Try using wet washcloths for a while and see if that helps. (Ever since my daughter I use those babywipes to clean the house - they cut through anything!)
