Yeast Diaper Rash

I think my 16 month old may have a yeast diaper rash. Anyone with any tricks to get rid of it. I've got a call in to the nurse. But am just wondering what the "real experts" have to say about it.
Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

Thanks to all of you for the great tips. I spoke with the nurse she siad to get over the counter lotrimin and use it at every diaper change and if it doesn't clear up by mid of this week to bring her in for an appointment. Thanks again.

B.,
My daughter was about the same age when we went through the same thing. We went to 3 different doctors and through a lot of different meds, but the thing that ended up clearing her up was a weekend trip to the lake and we let her play in the swimming pool for a couple days. I'm not a doctor of any means, but she cleared right up. Hope any advise helps.

After working in daycare for 6 years and having three of my own.I actually have a lot of experience with that.Yeast is usually a solid red rash.(verses looking spotty like a normal diaper rash) It will not go away with diaper cream. You need to get athletes foot cream (lotrimin) off brand is fine. You pt it on the area just like diaper cream. You can also use feminine creams but they are more pricey and it's the same thing.

My daughter had similar problems. We eventually had to get a ointment form of Nystatin from her pediatrician to treat the yeast infection. We also had to try a concoction of mylanta and the caldesene powder that comes in a pink bottle. We mixed it together and painted it on her bottom. Now I only use Arbonne baby products on her skin.

If it really is yeast (google it and look at some pictures or read descriptions to be sure), then home remedies for adult women's yeast infections will probably work. Plain yogurt applied to the area at each change should work, but it will probably be messy. Honey may also work (messy!). Garlic is also good, but I don't think it would work on the entire diaper area since you are NOT supposed to cut it up (women can insert an intact clove in the vagina, but I don't see how you could do that successfully for the entire diaper area).

Hello B.,
You can use flour or corn starch brown it in a pan. Just let it cool off after browned. Then you can take a salt shaker and sprinkle it on the affected area. It works wonders and its better than anything you buy in the store.
Hope this helps Good Luck, and God Bless!

Hi B.! My daughter had problems with this when she was a baby. I bought some Monistat (or any kind of yeast infection cream) and put that on the rash. It works wonders.

I have heard that the white stuff is better than the clear for rashes that are super bad and not just a little red.

I have also read somewhere about putting a wet tea bag in their diaper. I would google that and see what you come up with.

Our pediatrician had us use women's Monistat cream (I bought the 7-day generic), and apply it just like diaper rash cream twice a day. It usually clears things up in 2-3 days.

My daughter has really sensitive skin, like me and has had a couple of these yeast rashes. My first advice to you is to take her in to the doctor and make sure thats really what it is, don't just call the nurse to find out what to do. If its not a yeast infection (which is what causes yeast diaper rash) and you treat it improperly, you could cauase some serious damage. If you have been to the pediatrician and are sure its yeast, then just get an adult over the counter yeast infection treatment, the cream kind, not the suppositories. Use the tube of cream that it comes with like a diaper rash vream. Do not put it inside of her like an adult would do. It works great and in a couples days it will be gone and you have the rest of the tube around in case it happens again. Hope it helps!

My daughter went through the same thing, but after taking her to the dr he said it wasn't yeast but it was a really bad rash. He had us use cortizone cream on the red areas 3 times a day. It was amazing how quickly it worked. Also try letting them run around without a diaper on and air dry that helps too.
