Yearly PAP Question

I have a quick question about my yearly exam and PAP scheduled for Monday. I have an IUD and my periods are unpredictable so I couldn't really schedule around that. Anyhow, I've been spotting today so I guess my period is starting and I was wondering if it's still possible to have a PAP done while having your period or if I'll have to reschedule. This is the first time this has ever been an issue for me so I really don't have any information on what to do. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

To be on the safe side, I called my GYN office first thing this morning and the nurse said that they will do a PAP while on your period as long as the flow is light (like only needing a pantiliner) and it will not affect your results. She said that if you're having to use pads or tampons that they advise you to reschedule. I kept my appointment and everything went well. Thank you for all of your help! :)

LOL! This happened to me for the last 2 months! You do need to reschedule. Your period taints the PAP. Good luck!

You need to ask your doctor's office to see what they normally do. My doctor has said it doesn't matter to them, it doesn't affect the results but it is up to you if you are uncomfortable.

You should reschedule. If you're on your period, it can throw off the results.

V.: No need to cancel/reschedule your appointment if you are spotting. For the past few years most physicians have been using a new type of PAP test whose results are unaffected by light bleeding/spotting. Good for you for keeping up with your annual exams. If it is a full on period you will probably have to reschedule. Just saying frommt experience!

You may want to ask the Dr.'s office. I was told that if it was light, then it was still ok.
