Yaz Birth Control & Libido

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experience taking Yaz birth control pills (not Yasmine). I was just prescribed this bcp to help me manage my periods. I have had a heck of a time finding a birth control method that works for me because I do not tolerate hormones well at all. It seems like since I had my daughter two years ago my body chemistry has changed and the things that used to be ok for me (like birth control pills) no longer have the same effect. I've tried the nuvaring and Lo-Ovral 28 and with both of them I had ZERO sex drive. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Yaz regarding this issue. Also, I had some serious mood problems with previous hormonal methods, particularly irritability and anger. Did anyone experience this with Yaz? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

I just switched off of Yaz b/c of horrible side effects. I origianlly started taking it to control my major mood swings, but it seemed to make them worse. I was told by my new OB that Yaz actually has a large dose of progesterine and people have either done really well with it or have had very bad expiuerence with it (like me)
After 3 mo. on it, I started noticing a pattern and I could actually feel my emotions starteing to go out of control. My husband noticed as well. I also started losing some hair b/c of the hormone level. My sex drive was also halted.
If you think about it, YAZ was designed to help balance hormoned for women who have PMDD, so it is actually giving you more hormones in your body. My OB said that there is a large percentage of women that she has seen that do not take to it well.
I have since switched to MERICETE and that is the lowest dose of hormones possible. It is WONDERFUL! no side effects and I didn't even get sick the first time taking it.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
PS- I saw that you had posted about losing weight for a cruise....how is that going? did anything help? I have found that since having my 2nd baby I dont have time to sit down and eat, so I am muching all through the day on little healthy snacks and that has really boosted my matabolism and I have started to lose a decent amount of weight.
Good luck!

Yaz saved my marriage, plain and simple. A few years after having twins my hormones were completely out of control. I was miserable all last summer and couldn't figure out why. It was like I was having PMS 24/7. My husband thought I was planning to leave him, that's how miserable I was (and I surely wasn't planning to do that!) My doctor put me on Yaz this past fall and I finally feel "normal" again. It really has saved my life, my marriage and my relationship with my children and extended family. I don't need bc as I had a tubal but with my hormones so out of whack, I can't be off of them right now.

I've notice that my sex drive has decreased a lot but it's not gone completely. I just need to work at it :-)

GOod luck...I've told a couple of friends to look into Yaz as well and they love it.

I didn't notice the libido changes, just the fact that I was GOING CRAZY!!!! My husband told me to stop taking it. I was crying at nothing and snapping at my kids and I am usually a very happy easy going person. Sure enough, as soon as I stopped taking it, I was right back to normal. I am now on Micronor, which has no estrogen. It does raise my bp a little, so my doctor says just one more year and then my hubby needs to go for the vasectomy. Hope this helps!

Hi! It's funny you mentioned Yaz, that's the bcp I have been trying out for the last two months. I believe I was also on Lo-Ovral-28 and that didn't work well for me either. I have a 21 m.o. son and also have had problems with any bcp since having him. Hormone levels are completely thrown off. I'm experiencing "female discomforts" that I never had before the baby. Basically zero sex drive also. I haven't experienced the mood swings with YAZ, but am having some other side effects. I'm only in my second pack right now and will see the GYN to discuss my opinion of it towards the end of the third pack. I definitely don't like that my period starts later in the week and also lasts about 7-9days which is longer than normal for me.

Unfortunately, I have to be on BCP too for endo problems. How long have you been on YAZ? Hope this info helps!
