How old is your daughter?

Other alternatives are:
Albuterol
Proventil
Theodur
Ventolin
(there are other types as well).

Just stop the Xopenex.
Or reduce the number of inhalations and lengthen the frequency.
Unless, she is having an Asthma attack and is under duress from it and is in an active Asthmatic stage.
Then take her to the ER. Pronto

I have Asthma.
Not all inhalers match with a person.

Go to the ER if you have to.
They will give her an alternative.
there are many kinds.

Be aware, that some are Steroid based. Some are just Bronchodilators.
Some are short-acting/FAST acting, some are long acting/maintenance inhalers. Some used in conjunction with each other.

My Mom, did not match with Xopenex. It made her anxious as well. For me, it works well and I do not have side effects. I do not have side effects, from the various Asthma inhalers. I have had, all of those I listed above. And personally, I like Xopenex and it works well for me.
Each person, being different.
But you need to tell your Pediatrician, so they know and can switch to another prescription and get one that is better suited/matched for her.

Again, if your Daughter is in acute or active stages of Asthma... TAKE her to the ER.
Do not wait.
She needs, medication.

Call the doctor who prescribed it and tell them what you are observing. Ask them if they can change the medicine for her.

Hi S.,

what about albuterol and Qvar--- ask your doc about those. They work well together.

Best wishes,

M.

xopenex tends to do that to some people. Ask for albuterol instead. I knew one mom her son was on xopenex and he got very aggressive to. But you also have to realize any medication like that will raise her heartbeat give her the shakes and it may be scaring her. It is the lesser of the evils. But be aware it may be a fear thing for her. But I would ask for albuterol instead. xopenex does work better than albuterol I have taken both but the side effects aren't worth it if she is bing aggresive. Ask for an albuterol and a nebulizer back up.

Dear S.,
Have you had the chance to have her checked for food allergies?
Now would be a good time to do that and get her off drugs.
Please do not put her on another drug to handle the side effects.
best, k

Research natural healing methods for asthma and allergies. Identify any foods or chemicals in the environment that may be triggering problems and remove them. There are nutrients, herbs, aromatherapy, acupressure, energy balancing, and other therapies that can help address the problem without you using dangerous prescription medications. There are plenty of natural healing practitioners in the Broward area who can help.

Are you sure Xopenex is the ONLY thing she's taking? I've been a pediatric RT for 10 yrs and have never heard of Xopenex making anyone aggressive. You can ask to be switched to Albuterol (same thing just with more side effects such as shaking, increased heart rate, hyperness) and maybe that will work better for her and maybe she won't have the side effects. Is she on a controller med as well?
