Xmas Dinner- No Clue What to Make

Its just me and my dh, and our 2 yr old dd- who wont eat it anyway. Id like to make something special but as Im due to have a baby on the 27th, Im not into doing anything too involved. I was thinking steaks and mashed potatoes, but that doesnt seem very festive :) Any ideas? TIA oh- and my dh is not a fan of ham. Guess I should figure out a dessert too...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

My dh decided he wants steaks :) so i think Ill do a steak diane, which is a little fancier.

Steaks are GREAT.

You can mix cranberry juice and apple cider (or sprite) and put them in champagne glasses... decorate up the table... and you'll be as festive as can be!

No worries.

(Ahem.... BUY the dessert. Cheesecake, icecream and berries, pie, whatever. Go with the Easy Button Mama. The Easy Button.)

Make a duck.
It comes frozen from the grocery store.
Just thaw it.
On the wrapper, there are directions on cooking it.
Easy.

But yes, steaks are always good.

My MIL is making LASAGNA...YUM! I am bringing salad fixings and some Olive Garden dressing...SIL is getting the bread. Simple meal...not a ton of sides and all that business...and MIL makes magic with the lasagna....pretty good for someone without the Italian in her! LOL (I jest as my family IS Italian and spaghetti that takes all day to cook was the norm for a holiday meal until my Mom died 4 years ago).

I can't wait!

When it comes to Christmas dinner for me it's all about keeping it very simple. I think the day should be spent with family, not in the kitchen working. We're having a pork roast with roasted potatoes and carrots. I'll cut up the carrots and make a salad the day before. We had steak last year, it was quick and simple - I think it's a great meal.

Sometimes we've just done Chinese food and had ourselves a nice Jewish Christmas!

There's also Cornish game hen, duck, and lamb chops. I like the lobster idea too, if you both are lobster fans.

We are having a spiral ham and cheesy potato casserole plus green bean casserole. What you said about steak and potatoes sounds great, use a type of steak you don't normally have and some simple decorations on the table. You could make a chicken patties(Spartan has some great ones) for your daughter and use a small cookie cutter to cut them into Christmas shape nuggets for fun. It is not about what you serve it is the fact that you are together around the table and spending time as a family, with all that it will be festive. Merry Christmas and congratulations on the baby.

Actually I was thinking about steaks, baked potato, tossed green salad, veggie and dinner rolls. I too thought it didn't sound very holidayish, but it sounds good so I think that's what I'm going to do. Either that or the same sides with prime rib. I'm thinking about trying one of the recipes I found on this site yesterday (thanks mamas!)

Instead of a turkey, you could make a roast chicken with stuffing and cranberry sauce, etc. The whole roast chicken looks fancy like a turkey, but is small for a small family. You also could make cornish game hens (frozen in the grocery store). It's just as easy as cooking a whole chicken, but even fancier since they are individual size/

Pie is an easy dessert with the premade crust. Just unroll, put in pan, add canned filling, bam, you're done!

Good luck with the baby!
