You really don't need to get him anything. He's 4 months old, so he won't care. He's not even old enough to unwrap a present. I'm not being a grinch, just honest. They really don't "get" it till they're at almost 3 years old. If it makes YOU happy to get him a toy, go for it. At this stage of the game, it's more about mommy and daddy having fun than the little one.

Get him.. his own Christmas Stocking... and put his name on it...

And what I do every year since my kids were born... is I get a photo ornament... from Kodak.
Here is the link:
www.kodakgallery.com
The photo ornaments are REAL cute and nice. Just last week, I ordered 2 for my kids. Every year I do that. One each for each kid.
Then, when they are all grown up, it will be a keepsake for them... to have on their own Christmas tree... when they have their own families...
and each year, each photo ornament shows how they have grown...
and in the meanwhile.. our own Christmas tree... is gradually getting decorated and filled with our kids' photo ornaments... and it is real cute. The kids, enjoy getting their annual ornament. And I always with a Sharpie, put the date/year on it. That is my "tradition" for them every year...

OR, (and I did this too), is make a cute little photo book for him... (I also used Kodak for this), for his birth and his first few months of life... then when he is a grown-up... it will be a fabulous memento for him... and his own family. In my photo books of my kids as a newborn, I even put in photos of my Hubby giving them their first sponge bath, for example. Or how they look when sleeping... or crying... or happy. Just cute little candid photos... of them. My kids, love looking at "their" photo books... and how they were as "babies."

all the best,
Susan

Start his personal library by getting him your favorite baby book from when you were a child. I think Sandra Boynton (sp?) books are great fun.

Since he's so little, I wouldn't worry about getting him anything! When my dd was 2 mos, she had her first Xmas, and we got her keepsake things and books. She used to make this weird sound like a goat, so we called her billy goat, and got her a billy goat plush toy, some board books (the classics like Runaway Bunny, Goodnight Moon, etc.) and I think that's about it. We spent most of our $ on the 6 year old we had at the time.

A clean diaper, a warm bottle/some boob juice, and a good burp before bed! LOL, seriously he is 4 months old, I really wouldn't lose much sleep or spend a bunch of dough on his xmas gifts. Maybe a keepsake ornament, but thats about it.

He won't know the difference.
Get him a cute onesie or something that says "Daddy loves me"
or "Grandma loves me" or something like that.

Money for College!!! If you have any relatives they will cover all of the toys and clothes you can imagine!! Don't waste your money or time buying more toys! Sometimes the best toys are found in your cabinets anyway!

My granddaughter was only 2 months old at christmas, my grandson was only 5 days old at christmas. I bought musical toys that even had a little education like play gyms and such. My granddaughter got the animal train and it is still a favorite toy at age 4. Both my granddaughter and my grandson enjoys the Elmo play gym that is from birth on up. It plays music, counts and sings the ABC song and grows as they do. I had put it up after my granddaughter outgrew it until my grandson was born last December and I got it out again and he loves it and funny thing is she remembers it and will sit down at it just like she did when she was a year old and plays with it too. She always says "ohh that was my favorite toy when I was a child" She is only 4 so I always laugh.

He will be over a year old before next Christmas so think about things he might play with throughout the year:
stacking/nesting cups
pull toys (dog on leash)
musical toys (if you can handle the noise)
a ball (to roll)
teething toys
music

I don't think you need to spend much but it is nice to give something. :)

Fisher Price toys for ages 6 months and up. They will give him room to grow, and are very durable. LOVE Fisher Price--it's my favorite brand!

When my daughter was young, her grandparents bought savings bonds for her and her cousins. As the kids grew up, they got a savings bond for every birthday along with a small gift. When they were going to college or off on their own, they cashed out the bonds and had money for a car, college or their first home.

This year Christmas is more how you perceive the holiday with your new son. He will not know the difference.

Now would be a good time to start your own savings plan for your son (and possibly a new tradition) that will grow through the years.

Good luck and have fun!!
