I have never had one in my life and I dont think I do now but Im really not too sure. I am 9 weeks pregnant and I know that pregnant women tend to be more prone to them. I never got one with my last pregnancy thank goodness. I just had a Pap test done last Tuesday and I heard nothing but this morning I started to feel a bit irritated down there (not itchy per se) more like right after some hanky panky =) which didnt happen because I also always feel like Im about to hug the toilet. Anyway I also noticed quite a bit of discharge which again I know can be brought on more so than usual with pregnancy. I also shave down there so maybe that is causing some irritation but again I havent done that since my trip to the dr. last week. I was just wondering if I would for sure know that that is what it is or if I am just being paranoid and there is nothing going on. I know I should make an appointment to see the dr again and I am not going to use any OTC meds especically because I have never had one before and because I am pregnant but I guess I am just looking for comfort that all is fine
Thanks ladies

What can I do next?

While I was pregnant I had more discard then normal that irritated my skin down there. My doctor told me to rub Vaseline down there to help protect the skin. It really helped to make me feel better down there. With a yeast infection it is painful to pee, will cause what feels like to me small cramps and is really itchy.

A yeast infection is obvious. Serious itching along with excess white discharge with "curds." If it's not obvious call your doctor. It's possible this irritation was caused by the pap. When in doubt call the doctor. You don't have to go in. Most questions can be answered over the phone. If not they'll make an appointment.

Doesn't sound like any yeast infection I've had... Like a previous poster said... It's HORRIBLY itchy.

If you have a question about it, you could go to the Dr, but you could just up your yogurt intake. I'm one of those that has yeast infections if I simply take a bath, use the wrong soap, use the wrong toilet paper (or adult wipe)... You get the idea.

I got excess discharge with both of my pregnancies, but it wasn't an infection. My body just produced more at those times. The other thing... TMI, but my vagina felt like someone just kicked me in it every time I got checked, pap, or after intercourse... So I seemed to always feel like that (specifically towards the end).

The only yeast infection I got while pregnant, my Dr recommended I use the Providone/Iodine douche for only 2 'doses'. One the first night and one the next night. That was the ONLY time I've EVER used any kind of douche... But it did relieve the burning and itchiness.

Monistat (sp?) has those things out now that you can test for yeast infection. You pee on a stick or something. I do feel irritated after I shave too.

You're pregnant and not sure. Give the doc a call and let them check it out. It will take them 2 seconds to let you know for sure and then you can get treated properly. If that's what it is and you let it go it will be hell till the meds kick in.

I think your first yeast infection should be confirmed by a doctor and than any further ones you can treat how they tell you to.

I had a NASTY one after I gave birth. Since I was nursing, I refused to take meds and looked up more natural treatments. I know this is going to sound gross, but I've done it and it worked!

To combat a yeast infection, cut WAY back on your sugar intake (candida yeast feeds on sugar) and increase the probiotics, which restore the balance of bacteria in your body. You can do this by eating live, active culture yogurt or applying it directly to the site. It's a bit wild (I would do it in the shower), but take plain yogurt on your finger and put it inside you as best you can. Wear a panty liner as some may come out afterward. It did this for three days and it killed the yeast infection. Sweet relief.

(Also works well for thrush - apply to inside of baby's mouth and cheeks)

Weird but worth it!

The color and consistency of the discharge can tell whether it is yeast or an overgrowth of bacteria. If it is one or the other, I would imagine that neither will go away without treatment. If it persists than I would make an appointment with your obgyn so they can determine which it is and what the appropriate course of action is.
