Whenever I set at the edge of a chair or the couch with my left knee bent, my foot goes numb and gets tinglely with a shot like feeling in it and also when after I get done standing in the shower I'll go set on the bed to get dressed and from standing in there my foot does the same thing! Also, my left hand goes numb all the time if it's bent to long and it to gets tinglely and feels like shots going through it! Does anybody have any idea what might be going on with me???

So What Happened?

well i wanna add: i'm getting answers that it sounds like a pinched nerve but I've been tested for a pinched nerve. They put these needles on my skin and had some machine hooked up to it that sent some kind of shock waves or something through them and it came back normal! My foot and hand does not stay numb constantly, only when bent to long and when i stand to long on my foot! I had lower back sergery and neck sergery, I wonder if that has anything to do with it???

Sounds like either a circulation issue or a pinched nerve. I had pinched nerve issues when I was pregnant with my son - to the point that I could be holding something in my hand and would drop it because I lost control.

I agree with Kristin. I too had a pinched nerve and my knee to my foot went numb for weeks. It finally cleared up before I got the authorization for the neurologist.
I would make an appointment with your doctor and let him know what is going on.

I have had pinched nerves also. A chiroprator was the one who helped me. You might repost and ask is there is a good one in your area. I wouldn't pick one without getting a referal from someone who has used them.

I agree with Kristin and Margie. Get in touch with your doctor-th sooner the better. I have a pinched nerve in my neck and it affects my neck, left arm, and back. I have lost strength in my arm and hand. I'm starting to be able to do more but if I had to do over again I wouldn't wait-I'd just go.

I too had improved symptoms with the tens machine. It worked wonders a couple of times. I don't know if its a pinched nerve or not, I just suggest you contact your doctor as s/he is the only one who would be able to tell you that.

Have you been to the doctor about this since they looked for a pinched nerve? If not I would go back , my dad had this problem in his leg , but it got worse to the point where his foot was cold all the time and he had pain , turned out that the vein in part of his leg has collapsed and blood was not getting through , he has to have an op to re route a vein from his arm to the leg (this was after all other options failed) , he was in a bad way for a while. Not saying this is what is wrong with you , but what you are describing sounds similar to worth getting it looked into.

Hi A.,

I think that you should ask your doctor if you can see a physical therapist for therapy and an evaluation. I had similiar numbness and tingling down my arm that the doctors were not able to identify. I went to a chiropractor who made my symptoms worse. They physical therapist determined that I had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (compression of nerves from the skaleen muscles) and treated me and after over a year of bouncing from doctor to doctor looking for answers I found relief. It sounds like your symptoms are positional which makes me think that your symptoms may be caused from nerve compression, sometimes this occurs due to muscle spasm which a physical therapist can help with.

I'm a certified posture alignement and pain management specialist and I can GUARANTEE that your skeletal structure is out of alignment. In turn, your circulation and neurological functions are being restricted. Thus, the tingling, numbness, etc. I see this kind of thing ALL THE TIME.

raynaud syndrome possibly. it is quite common. ask your doctor to rule this out. otherwise something neurological or weight related. if you have any extra weight it can cause some issues too. so exercise may help.

Maybe it's Plantar Fascititis? (The tendon that runs from the achilles to the base of your toes may be really tight and irritated.) I have that in both feet, and sometimes they tingle. You want to go see your doc. He will probably suggest Physical Therapy if that's what it is. Have no idea about your hand? I'd say, just don't keep them bent too long!!

I've always been like that... I have certain pressure points, and shazaam. It's not instantaneous, it usually takes a few minutes... and if I catch it soon enough all I get are tingles, if it progresses on to full numbness than it has to regress back through the tingly stage before I'm normal.

Also, any time you have surgery, odd things happen as nerves reroute. It usually takes anywhere from a few weeks to a few years for your brain to sort out which of the "new" messages to ignore.

I certainly don't know what is wrong, but I wonder if regular stretching and exercise would help. I'm thinking something not strenuous like yoga or pilates.
