Worried About My Little Girl
My little girl has been getting sick just about every month now since she's been about 5 months old. She's now 15 months and now I'm getting really worried. Before with an illness it was a small cold or an ear infection. This morning she woke up for the sole purpose of throwing up. The vomit was yellow. She's also had a fever for the past few days ranging at around 100.8. I'm not sure if I should take her to the doctor or not. I know that the vomit was just bile because she had an empty stomach and I know that a fever means her body is fighting whatever may be wrong. She keeps food down (for the most part) and she will drink water, pedialyte, just about whatever you put in front of her. Other then the infrequent vomiting, fever and fatigue she plays and laughs. I don't know where to go from here....

Is she in daycare? Because my daughter was constantly sick. Once she was home with me for the summer, (I am a teacher), she got better. If you are concerned call her ped.

Sounds like she probably has some immunity issues going on. If she has had a lot of antibiotics, then I would look in to getting her a good quality probiotic (you can find some for children at Whole Foods Market) or having her eat yogurt with active live cultures. Also, making sure that she drinks purified water quite frequently to flush out her system, eating lots of colorful vegetables and fruits, and nut butters would help. If you get on the internet and google "immunity boosting food" you will find some reputable websites that tell you about which foods are considered to be the best for boosting immunity. I particularly like Dr. Andrew Weil's website for this information.
Hope your daughter feels better soon. Happy 4th of July!

I would also think that there is definitely an immune issue here. From a holistic perspective, what is her diet like? Does she eat sugary foods, lots of prepared foods. Does she eat plenty of raw and cooked veggies and fruits, grains, etc? A food allergy could have contributed to the possible immune issue. I'd suggest either a good naturpath, and/or an acupuncturist. This way, you are getting symptom relief, plus getting to the source of the problem.
As far as the fever, it's low, so, I tend to avoid treating it until much higher. You are correct, her body is working to burn off whatever is foreign. Hope you find a solution that is right for your family.

Other than vomiting, fatigue and fever your infant is fine? Are you kidding? Go to the pediatrician, now! Those are serious symptoms.

I would definitely take her to the doctor. Could be that she keeps getting sick. Could be she has some sort of allergy (environmental, food, etc.). Could be a combination of both so it's hard to tell what's what. If you take her to the doctor and tell him/her basically what you told us, any doctor would look into it to find the answer. If not, get a second opinion.
Hope you find some answers soon!

If you think something isn't right, you go to the docs over and over and over until you get an answer. If you pediatrician can't or won't diagnose, you go to another and another and another.
Nobody knows your child like you do.
If your gut tells you something is wrong - you go with it - always.

Does she go to childcare or is she around other children frequently? This is pretty normal for a child that is exposed to other children on a regular basis. She may be getting little viruses on a regular basis. Her immune system will eventually catch up and build immunity to all these little bugs. The bugs can lead to additional issues like ear infections and/or sinus infections due to the mucus build-up being a good place for bacteria to grow...expecially in the little tiny nasal passages and ear canals of babies.
Do not be afraid to treat the fever with some infant's tylenol (generic is still available in stores...the name brand was recalled) every six hours with the dosage recommended by your pediatrician.
Otherwise, unless the fever gets high, like 102-104, I wouldn't worry too much. your daughter will have a good strong immune system once she has been exposed to all these little bugs.
BTW: allergies rarely cause fevers, and if they do they are usually severe fevers, not mild ones like your daughter is experiencing, so I wouldn't worry about allergies...
If you are truly concerned, then please go see your daughter's pediatrician. Even if it is what I described above, peace of mind can go a long way for both you and your daughter!

Is she getting the same type of illness every month? If so, I'd discuss with the pediatrician who can run some tests or refer to a specialist.
