Workout Ideas

so bathing suit season is upon us, and even though i've lost all the baby weight and then some, my body looks completely different than it did pre-baby. i'd like to be able to tone up my legs and my tummy but haven't had any luck thus far. does any one know of some good videos or routines that work for this? i dont have the money or time for a gym so it has to be something i can do pretty easily at home. I already walk every day. any ideas would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

Try ankle weights when you walk. They're not expensive. I have a BootCamp video and a kickboxing video, both cost $10. each at Target. You could also use canned foods as weights. I need to get back into doing this also.

Isometric excersises for your tummy work great. Lie flat on your back with your arms flat at your sides, palms down. Slowly raise your head and shoulders a bit off the ground. Then raise your feet off the ground at the same time. Hold this position for as long as you can manage it. Maybe 15 seconds...then in a controlled motion, slowly bring your feet and shoulders back down. Take a 15-30 second rest and repeat. Try doing 5-10 of these, and build up to doing more as you accustom to it. I swear this works better than crunches.

pilates is great overall body exercise! it does wonder for the core muscles, but be patient, it takes time. you should do it 3-4 times a week. good luck!

Good old fashion sit ups have worked wonders for my tummy, after all 3 of my kids, i can honestly say that doing sit ups it has helped my stomach look almost as it did before kids. I dont have much time to work out, but what i do when i get a minute alone is put my feet under the couch or bed and do 100 sit ups, i do this once in the day and then again at night. Good luck, i hope this helps.

Hi B.:

I've found that the Ab Lounge works pretty good on the tummy area. It's not very expensive and really easy to use ( I got mine at Wal-Mart). I also do squats, lunges and leg lifts to work on my leg and thigh areas. As long as you keep up with it, you should see great results after a few weeks. I find that I can get in reps of 20-30 just about anywhere in the house, and it only takes a few minutes each time. Good luck.

I have the sculpting circle and have been very happy with it. The DVD that comes with it has a few different workouts on it that are really effective if you stick with it.

I have 3 kids also and it is hard to find time to work out as little as 10 minutes of toning a day has made a huge difference. I like to use Kathy Smiths toning dvd and 8min abs and arms or 8 min buns and thighs. Also the Carmen Electra toning dvd is good. Good luck carving out time for yourself if you have a cranky toddler you can always use them as a weight during squats and lunges.
