Work or School?

I have most of my employment experience in customer service/call center type work. About a week after my daughter was born, my employers closed their offices, leaving me with no job to come back to. I am currently looking for a job, however I'm also entertaining the idea of going to a trade school for medical coding/billing. My current options are, work full time or work part time & go to school 4 days a week. I was wondering if any of you have gone through a trade school for the medical coding/billing(specifically Western Career College) and if it would be worth my while or if I should just plan on going back to work full time.

What can I do next?

Have you considered working from home? I love the freedom and flexibility it gives me and being able to stay home with my son is the best thing. I could tell you more if you're interested. :)

This is a tough spot we all seem to find our selves in. I wanted something that I could do from home. I did look into the medical billing area and found that once you are done with the classes then you have to work in the doctors offices, they don't let you do it from home. If you are willing to do that then I say go for it.

I went back to school to become a nutritionist. School is always a good idea if you can balance it all. I am currently teaching people to be wellness coaches. I am looking for people that are teachable and have the drive. If you are interested then give me a call. Part time, you can make $500.00 to $2500.00.

Hope this helps
L.

My best friedn went to Western and it was great. I beleve they offer job placement as well. this is also a great job that can be done from home after you have some experience. I almost went the medical billing route as well and so I encourage you to go ahead with this if you can. The pay would be better than what most cal centers offer too. Go ahead with the education and bravo for you.

Ok as a second post, I know quite a few people who do medical coding and billing from home. Medical transcription is another one that is frequently done from home. So you don't have to work in the dr's office only. And this is a really valid job. Many people go to trade schools and get jobs. SO again if you think you want to do it dont let people talk you out of further exploration.

I am also in the same boat, but I am finishing my two year degree as a counselor. No matter what, community college is where it's at! Mine has a great day care and an A. A. program along with financial aid you do not have to pay back, unless you want to get school loans from the government, which I do get. You can also do work study and get a paycheck to learn in your field. This way you can pay your bills while you learn. The trade schools don't offer that! You will also know that the traditional college degree is respected and that you are not getting ripped off. Before you start, see a school counselor and check with the Better Business Bureau on the status of the trade school you plan to attend. Do the research first, then you will know the right choice to make.

S.,
You are making a tough decision, but you need to decide what you want to do. If you get a job - will that get you where you want to go in life? On the same hand - if you go back to school will that get you where you want to be in life? A lot of times we react to situations - such as graduating, loosing a job - even being offered a job. What I suggest is find out where you want to be for the rest of your life - what type of life do you want. What type of dreams do you want to fill. What part do you want to play in your daughters life. and then let those answers determine what course you take.
I have chosen to do a home based business after several years at school to get my teaching certificate and then again several years to start my masters. I value the education, but I know that it will not get me where I want to be in life. I love teaching, but I love having the freedom of a home based business. I also know that I can make more from home than I can at a job. That the security is greater, because I am in control. I would love to share with you what I have chosen to do, but also help you fish through all the opportunites out there if you want. I have spent several years looking at homebased business and resarching what works and what doesn't work. I would love to share that with you.
Call me any time

Hi S.!!! Well I do have to commend you on at least being open about exploring new avenues/new opportunities. The real question you need to ask yourself is what is really your goal? Is it to earn more money? To be at home with your daughter? To be able to provide an amazing life for you and your family? Have you ever thought about owning your own business? Not having to answer to a boss......being in control of your time? Not just being self-employed but owning a business that will continue to thrive even if you decided not to work and be with your family? I represent the largest financial services company in the world and in the busines sof helping people. This is NOT a get rich quick deal and is NOT a scam. Now, I don't know if this is for you, but if I could show you hope and opportunity for a bigger and brighter future for you and your family, would you at least sit down with me (under no obligation) so I can show you how we help people?

YOu could always try working from home. That what I had to do after my daughter was born. Day care was just too expensive.

My sister in law did medical billing and never went to a school for it. I think they just trained her on the job. I guess what you do comes down to one question. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? What would you like your life to look like and what are some things you would like to have? Like more time with your family, stuff like that. I think that once you come up with an anwser for those questions, you will be able to determine which road to take. I know I tend to get stuck in the moment-and if that's the case with you, then try to see the whole picture-b/c I personally would work towards something that would get me what I truely wanted. I saw that some people left you their info regarding home businesses- and if you're not familiar with network marketing, then I would encourage you to read up on it b/c it is one of the most challenging yet rewarding opportunities out there. I myself have a home business and I was so skeptical about the whole thing b/c I had heard all these horror stories about the industry- but like they say-you can only make a well educated decision when you have well-educated yourself first. Well, as you explore your options, here's the website to the company I started a business with - it's www.arbonne.com- If you would like more info just let me know and I'll help you in any way I can. Either way, I'll be encouraged to know what you decide to do. Take Care,
