Wood Blinds Vs. Faux Wood

Ok, I JUST dealt with this same issue.. and after a lot of consideration, price shopping and sleepless nights (I know.. they are just blinds) we went with the faux wood. We built a new home a year ago and needless to say didn't have any window treatments on the windows for over 6 months (and I'm talking 30 windows AND a sliding glass door). A few months ago I finally said "forget this," and broke down and really started price comparing. We went to stevesblinds.com and received free shipping and 40% off LEVELOR faux wood blinds, all custom cut and they are BEAUTIFUL!!! I absolutely love them!!! $600 covered my entire home, sliding door and all.

I have both types in my home. I prefer the faux. My wood blinds are less than 10 years old and have warped. They are not even on a window that receives sunlight. My faux are as gorgeous as the day they were installed and are a lot more durable with a 2.5 year old.

we have the faux.. in white.. they actually look realistic and nice... not cheap or cheesy.... We have had them now for about 10 years and they are in the front of our home which has morning and noon sun ... and even though they get lots of sun, they have not yellowed in the least..... also, they are easy to clean as oppose to perhaps wood ... I initially wanted the wooden ones which in our case, were more expensive so we elected to get the faux. at first I was thinking, ah great, this is going to look real obvious that these aren't wood and will look cheap.. but in fact.. they do look great and really enriched the way our windows look. In our case, the faux was really worth it.

I also got my faux wood blinds at Penneys when they went on sale. They have some great sales if you can wait. The blinds are beautiful and durable with my two kids always running to the window and lifting them up to look out. I got some with the no holes and would not recommend them with kids. When the kids look out the window they are always flipping them around and they start to slide out. When I bought some for their rooms, I made sure they had the holes for the strings.

Select Blinds on line always run great deals! You just have to measure correctly. You can usually get 30% and free shipping. They recommend faux wood and I've had both...the faux looks so much better and besides dusting, there is zero maintenance.

I used to sell both types of blinds. The wood blinds are durable however, they warp terribly! I am a big fan of the faux wood blinds that have a wood composite in the middle,then wrapped with vinyl for easy cleaning. The wood composite in the middle gives them strenght that a plain vinyl blind doesn't have. Lafayette venetian blind company has some great ones that are pretty affordable. Also, as far as the heavier faux blinds, check out how far apart the strings "Ladders" are that hold the slats, in most good blinds they are closer together for vinyl blinds therfore strenghting them. I have both in my home also, and as many said before me, I greatly prefer the faux. The wood is splintering a bit on the surface (maybe just the paint) and have yellowed. I want to replace them soon with faux. I did not pick them, our home was built 11 years ago, so I am assuming that is how old they are.

Faux.
Longer life to it, less maintenance.
ALL my friends have those... and in mid to high end homes. It looks great!

I have both. The wood blinds are about 40 years old and have been repaired and the 1" tape it uses instead of cord needs replacement every 10 years or so. They are hard to clean and are very heavy so if you have young children I would think about that. Make sure no lead paint!
I got my faux-wood 2" blinds from JCPenneys when on sale. An average window went in at around $30 each, $20 for the small and $45 for the big. They were easy to measure for and install, we removed the extra slats ourselves to make them shorter, so easy. (Keep some if they break) You can look at them at the store or on line and they go on sale often.They look great!!!! (I got more than 50 percent off!)These are safe for children, no tangling up in the cords between the slashes, no lead paint, just cut the hanging pull up cords or do as we have and put a hook under the header and wrap up the cords.
