Wondering If Any Mom's Have Seen These Symtoms?

Hi All,

My 21 month old has had a pretty bad case of diarrhea for the last three days now. He has it at least 4 times a day and this morning he woke up with it, then an hour later had it again so it seems to be even worse today. Two strange things- 1- Probiotic Culturelle typically always works within a day or two if he gets something like this. It is not working in the slightest. 2- He has NO other symptoms except for being "slightly" more clingy then normal. Otherwise, he's running around playing, laughing, jumping as normal, has had no vomiting, no fever- no other symptoms. He's also showing no signs of dehydration and contunies to drink and eat normally- and have wet diapers. It's just whenever I feed him between regular food and breastfeeding, he gets the runs right after and this is going on 3 days now. I've not changed anything in his or my diet. And, it's not the typical "breastfed" baby watery diapers- these are explosive, super watery and defintiely diarrhea. Has anyone seen these symtoms before? My doctor won't get me in until 5:50pm this evening (they are apparently booked solid) and I'm freaking out until then.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Hi All! Thank you all for the feedback. Doctor just told me to up the amount of pro-biotic (I was only giving one a day) and today he seems pretty much back to normal (FINALLY). Now my 7 year old woke up with it this morning... Fun times at my house! (-;

My 17 month old had bad diarrhea for about 4-5 days last week. She was perfectly fine otherwise, though a bit more clingy. Something must be going around.

I was told a virus with diarrhea and vomiting is going around, that could last for almost two weeks. My son's got the vomiting.

Good luck.

Two of my three kids had the runs every time they cut a tooth...the more teeth coming in at once..the more serious the runs. Look for any teeth popping through.

he is probably teething...i wouldnt worry as long as there is adequate fluid intake and he isnt dehydrated (wet diapers) other than that no worries its just runny poop that could be caused by teething (excessive drool swallowed) or maybe a slight bug or drinking icky water at a pool or lake.

Maybe his 2 year molers? When some children get in new teeth they tend to get diarrhea.

Good luck,
Z.

Sounds like a simple stomach virus that has his intestines wound up. I would only breastfeed and put him on the BRAT diet for solids.
(Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast). No juices, no dairy (check your probiotic - most of them have a lactose base) and keep him hydrated.

Is your little one cutting molars?? sometimes the excess saliva and a low grade temp will result in stomach upset anad diareahea?? Jsut a thought.

I remember when my twins who were 14 months at the time and daughter who just turned three all had stomach flu at the same time. It was a huge mess!

E.

My son (14-mos old) had diarrhea a few weeks ago for a full 7-days. No other symptoms, not dehydrated. I put him on a bland diet, eliminated milk. I told myself if he wasn't better in a week we were going to the Dr. Day 8 he was back to normal! I spent a few days getting him back to his regular eating habits, but he is just fine.

Good luck!
