Wondering How Flower Mound Compares to Coppell
Good Morning,
We are planning on moving from Chicago to Texas. I fell in love with Flower Mound and really would like to live there. However, houses sell in 3-5 months in Chicago as compared to 1 month in TX. I feel like I need to have a second area of houses to look at as a back-up. Once we get a contract on our house we will need to purchase one in TX and will not have time to really look around. So...I thought we could also look in Coppell if there is nothing available in FM when we need to purchase.
Can anyone tell me a bit about Coppell and how it compares to FM in terms of family friendly, schools, neighborhoods. Thanks so much.

Coppell is in Dallas County and has a higher tax rate than Flower Mound, which is in Denton County. I think both places are great, but prefer Flower Mound. Coppell is more centrally located than Flower Mound, especially if you are working in Las Colinas/Irving. I've lived in Flower Mound going on 5 years now and absolutely love it. My husband is a homebuilder and I have said that I would only let him build me a new house IF it is in Flower Mound!

Hi L.! I have actually worked for both cities so I feel I should comment. I now stay home w/ my son, and I have not lived in either city. I lived in Lewisville, and now Highland Village. I have to agree that I think Flower Mound is a better city but it is basically going to come down to price. A house in Coppell is just going to cost more than one in Flower Mound. Not just because of taxes. (car and home insurance are cheaper in Denton county too). If you live in Coppell, you are much closer to downtown so you are paying to live in a very nice area with a shorter commute to downtown if that's what you need. Both cities do a great job of regulating growth and development and keeping their cities looking beautiful.
You should check out Highland Village too. We are just north of Flower Mound (but adjacent to it) and are in the wonderful Lewisville ISD that most of Flower Mound is also in. Good luck!

I liked living in Coppell it is easy to get to most places from there it seems like Lewisville and FM are a little further from places we go. I will tell you though we now live in Lewisville due to the taxes and the price of houses in Coppell are very high. (and you get more for your money in Denton county) Yes the schools in Coppell are good but so are Lewisville and FM. You need to go to www.greatschools.net and compare schools if that is something you are looking at too. They are right about FM and how it is growing, it looks like a nice city and I know the schools are good because the are apart of Lewisville schools. Good luck with your search.

You couldn't ask for a more friendly community than Coppell imo. There are several parks with playgrounds, an aquatic center and other activities. All of the restaurants are family friendly too. I don't know how Flower Mound compares, but property taxes are fairly high but many feel the schools reflect this. The schools are all highly rated, the only concern we have is regarding the size of the High School; however, this will hopefully be addressed by the time our ds comes of age. There are also active MOMs, ECPTA and MOPS clubs you can join that can help you find your niche.

I lived in Double Oak near Flower Mound and loved it there. Now after a divorce I live in Ft Worth. I know the taxes in Double Oak were lower then Flower Mound but you have to have money to live in Double Oak.
I still pay a lot for taxes here in Ft Worth, but not $10K a year. Coppell has grown and is a nice area. I bought a new home and now after 5 years it has foundation problems and my neighbors are going through it too. Please make sure you have inspections done before you move in. Also one thing I loved was having a well to water our yard. No bill for that, once it was installed but some of the neighbors had to much copper in the soil and got red around the brick. We had great luck. My neighbor across the street drilled two or three times before they found water but these are again 1 acre lots. G. W

I have lived in Coppell for over five years and love it. Coppell is about 20 miles to downtown Dallas, which is not a bad commute (as I used to drive it). In my opinion, everything you need can be found in or closely around Coppell as it is centrally located with access to four major freeways. Unlike Coppell, getting around town in Flower Mound is impossible with virtually no quick access to any major freeways. It is true that Coppell's residential areas are built out and are no longer in the development stage (except for some higher-end homes currently being built i.e., $800K +), but this only means the housing values will continue to increase in Coppell. Also, Coppell still has a somewhat small-town feeling where you can actually run into people you know while out and about and everyone is friendly. In my experience, Flower Mound is becoming so congested with both commercial and residential development that it does not have that same feeling. Finally, the Coppell schools are exemplary, which in my opinion are also better than most (if not all) Flower Mound schools...the Coppell ISD is presently addressing the overcrowding issue at the high school (ie., building another highschool or converting a pre-existing school to another high school), which should hopefully be resolved within the next two years (from information I have read and heard in the community).
Overall, it really depends on what you are looking for in a community. I believe both cities are family-friendly and have comparable resources for families (parks, playgrounds, excellent libraries, etc.)For my family, Coppell is the only place to reside! I hope this helps you.

Hi L.,
Coppell school district is one of the best. What I love about Coppell, is that everything is very convientent to get too. The DFW airport is just minutes away, as well as malls, and dining. Plus there is a great Recreation Park/Pool area. Good luck with your search.

Hi L.!
We relocated from California to Flower Mound, and we've never been happier! The one suggestion I will make though, is to look on the outer rim of Flower Mound due to traffic concerns within Flower Mound. We live closer to Lewisville/Grapevine in a subdivision that's located between 2499 and 3040, as they run parallel to one another.
When the time comes, and you are actually home shopping, send me a note and I'll be happy to answer any of your questions about home locations (IE where they are within our town). I have no real estate affiliations, promise! I'm just a person that's been in your situation and wished I'd had someone to tell me what-is-what when we were looking. Have a great weekend!

I have lived in Flower Mound for almost two years, but am very familiar with Coppell as well. I believe in the North Texas area the best places to live are Flower Mound and Southlake. Coppell just really doesn't compare. Flower Mound is currently going through alot of growth and Coppell does not have any major changes happening to it - so if you are looking for something that is already completely developed then that might be a plus. I believe that both neighborhoods are very safe, but Coppell is close to Irving where, I believe crime is higher. Both cities are family friendly. The schools in Flower Mound are slightly better than those in Coppell. But one thing though, is that in Coppell I have noticed that they usually have signs on the street corners letting the community know when school events (high school plays and musicals, basketball games, etc) and community things are going on, whereas in FM I have never seen anything like that. Good luck in your decision and welcome to Texas.
