Okay I have a question for all you ladies I hope I don't offend. I just turned 30 and while I am fine with where I am at in my life I'm afraid my body is going haywire all the sudden and it's freaking me out. So for the past 4/5 months my period and stuff around it have been really weird. I have an Mirena IUD that's been in for 2 1/2 yrs or so and I've loved it but I don't know if that what going on or what. Here's what's been going on. About a week before my period starts I get really exhausted (like reminds me of first trimester exhaustion), I sleep like 9-10 hrs and wake up exhausted and need an hour nap in the afternoon and just feel like I can't function that week. I get really testy emotionally (start feeling very unloved by everyone which is totally untrue). I also added a few new symptoms this last month (not sure if it was period related or I had a UTI during the same week). I got massive night sweats (like it's 65 degrees in my home and my pajama shirt is sticking to me because I've sweat so much), my whole back and neck muscles cramped up and where really sore all week, I had a fever for a few days, and then I had a slight burning towards the end of my urine stream (when I'd go pee :) and a more frequent need to use the restroom. Then all the symptoms just disappear the day I start bleeding. But the bleeding has been really weird. 2 months ago my period consisted of 2 days of just a slight pink tint to my muscus discharge (I know tmi, but I'm desperate here people). It also came a week earlier then expected. Then the next month same symptoms (irratibility, exhaustion, night sweats) but normal period and normal time. Than this month it's the same pinkish plus the UTI symptoms. Can someone out there help me. I am going to the doctor tomorrow (I got put on antibiotics for UTI symptoms the end of last week and this is suppose to be just a check up and see how the culture turned out). I'm afraid I never had a UTI and now I'm really afraid that my body is screwed up. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance you people are wonderful.

What can I do next?

Get it out! Those are warning signs that the UTI is not working right. Things will only get worse.

I'd go see both your OB/GYN and your primary care dr. If they don't have answers for you ask what your next stwp is - perhaps and endocrononlgist?

Feel better.

It is affecting your adrenal and thyroid glands. You have glands (and the female organs) that put out many different kinds of horones. Hormones are messenger carriers, just as the nervous system is. IN fact, these are he two ways your body communicates and functions- the nerves and the hormones.

It is unbelevable to me how doctors these days are so flippant about dosing things that will affect hormones. Most MD's dont have a CLUE about how the body functions at a biological level. They look at the package insert (if that) to see what side affect a drug does to the body. The people who make mirena have taken important side effects of this drug off the package insert info.

MIrena releases progesterone,a sex hormone.Progesterone is NOT only involved with pregnancy, it is a PRECURSOR TO CORTISOL, ALDOSTERONE AND TESTOSTERONE ...and disprupts DHEA.. These first two hormones I just listed are lfe and death hormones- a severely low amount can lead to shock/death, and a severely high amount can lead to conn's/cushings disease, where tumors grow in the endocrine glands. These hormones control potassium, salt and water balance, blood sugar balance, and blood pressure, among many other things.
Progesterone is a natural diretic-it causes a loss of your electrolite- sodium.
I have a daughter who had damaged adrenals and she cannot keep her sodium balance up because she doesnt have enough aldosterone. She ends up in ER because of it. She has cronic constant fatigue, faints, has low blood sugar, cant sleep, has sweaty palms but cold hands and feet- the list is quite long. On the exact opposite side of the spectrum are those with high sodium.... (conn's disease) where they would get high blood pressure, night sweats, headaches, fatigue, ...the list is long- you can go online to look it up. In both cases, FATIGUE is an issue.
Prgesterone acts as a sedative. Progesterone acts to cause high aldosterone in some people.High aldosterone will lower potassium. There are a flood of hormones in the body, they ALL check and balance each other . An overdose in one will cause a lack in another. Progesterone opposes estrogen. So high progesterone will lower your estrogen- hence your night sweats probably. There is no wonder your periods are dysfunctional.
If testostrone is high, you can get insulin resistance. Look up hypoglycemia and hyper glycemia.
You should get OFF this thing asap. Good luck finding a reptile, i mean, a doctor, who is willing to take it out. They would rather see a women poisoned by it, than remove them. That tells you where their mind set is to begin wth. Your body is not your own once you let them have the authority to insert things that you yourself cannot remove and are at thier mercy to remove.. . Be TOUGH, be insistent- until they take it out.

Then have your hormones tested, your electrolytes tested, and a SALIVA (not blood) cortisol test performed.

sounds like premenopause to me. but i'm not dr. i've been going thru pretty much the same thing with all the same sypmtoms except for the lighter period. mine just lasted for 5 days and then had a slight discharge (sorry) for another 3 days. I've NEVER had that. my mother and grandmother went thru menopause in their mid 30's, so i'm thinking that is going to happen to me also. or i'm hoping. ;)

Have them check your thyroid levels. Several of your symptoms were the same that I had when hypo.

The best advice I, or anyone else, can give you is to make an appointment to be seen by your ob/gyn.

I second the hypothyroidism if your OB can't figure it out. Especially with the exhaustion you have.

Sounds like imbalanced thyroid to me, or possible adrenal fatigue. For sure your hormones are out of balance. I agree with others--get hormone levels and thyroid levels checked out.

You may need to get off the Mirena.

However, have your thyroid checked. I had MASSIVE night sweats for years before my hypothyroidism was diagnosed. I would literally soak through a mattress. The sweats disappeared the moment I went on thyroid replacement.

It sounds like PPMD could be the culprit (not sure if that is the right acronym, it's the one that is like really really bad PMS). I don't know if it is more likely to crop up or not when on the Mirena - I never had any issues for the 6 years I had Mirena, but also never had a period.
I would talk to your doc about it. Let him know it is happening regularly, and the timing of right before your period. And if you're seeing a general practice Dr, it might be good to see a gyn. Ask for a referral if you need.
Hope you get it figured out and get feeling better soon!
