Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find a Wizard of Oz birthday cake? Or do you know someone who bakes wonderful cakes? I live in San Leandro and am at a loss. The only person i found was $200. A bit out of my budget. I appreciate any suggestions.

What can I do next?

Hi S., a friend of mine, Lori, has a cake business in Livermore and she delivers. She makes darling cakes and they're really tasty too! She made my daughter's ballet cake for her 3rd birthday. Here's her website:

Don't know if this is too far - but Suzanne's Bakery in Millbrae specializes in decorated cakes and are decently priced.

Have you tried Gala Bakery on Hesperian? They made both my baby shower cake and daughter's 1st birthday cake using items I brought in (invitation & favorite toy) and wanted to incorporate.

Baskin Robbins will do a picture on a cake. Just bring them the picture you want on there.

Try Safeway and Lucky bakeries as well as places that make Ice cream cakes (Baskin Robbins, Lourds). I think all these places can do the picture transfers for cakes. Print one off your computer and bring it in.

Virginia bakery on shattuuck in Berkeley. Pricy but not as much as your other place. I just got a 1/4. Sheet cake with minimal artwork for 55.

Hello S.: I have used a wedding and party store called "Gala" on Hesperian Blvd. We have had wedding and party cakes from there that were very good. They may have changed owners but they used to let to taste their product. Good Luck. NanaG

We used Costco for our school's cast party for the Wizard of Oz production. They have a standard rainbow cake that was perfect and great on the pocketbook to boot!

I don't know if you're still looking, but here's what we did for my daughter's Wizard of Oz party some years back. We found an Oz photo online, my hubby Photoshopped in my daughter's image, so it looks like she's going down the yellow brick road with all the characters, we printed it and took it to Safeway (I think it was Safeway!) where they transferred the image to the cake top (so it's edible, of course). You don't even have to insert your kid's face in the picture, to keep it easier for yourself. Super cute, clever and memorable.

search for "Rebecca's Edible Images" on eBay. I bought a great tasting cake from Costco (cheap!) and had them make it with NO design. Then added the custom made Little Einstiens "edible image". I spent less than $30!!!

Good Luck!

Take a look at Sue Faina's website. She is located in Concord.

She is very creative and is not very expensive. She will do anything you want. She has done a guitar, a piano, a basketball and more for us.
Good luck....

Try Lucky's. They have a whole binder of designs. We got our son's cake there last year and were very happy with it. Another idea is their cupcake - cakes where they have a sheet of individual cupcakes then cover the top with the frosting design. You can get pretty creative too.
Good luck.

Not sure how complicated you want to get with this cake, but both Ladyfingers Bakery and Merritt Bakery in Oakland make wonderful themed cakes. Good luck!
