Wisdom Teeth:( - Wyoming,MI
So I looked in all of the other questions asked just to see what people had to say and no one has asked about getting wisdom teeth pulled. Next thursday I am having my two top wisdom teeth pulled just under local anesthesia. The dentist said that it should be quick and easy since they are most of the way through and the roots are straight up and down. I am so nervous. Im not a baby but I still have to take care of my 2 year old so I cant drug myself up. I was just wondering if any of you moms have had yours out and how you felt. Oh and what do you eat afterward. It doesnt seem like you could really eat much. Only soft stuff. Well thanks in advance. N.
So What Happened?™
WOW never imagined so many responses. So i should of said yes i do have room for them and have had them for 7 years. The reason i am getting them out is because i have a cavity in one. And since im getting one they are both coming. So i have asked my SIL to take me and my Mom is watching the kids till bedtime. Ive decided just not to think much about it. Thank you so much for the responses.

I had mine out at 17. 2 were impacted, 2 were not. I slept all day on the first day and by the second day I switched over to ibuprofen, went to a job interview (and got the job!), and went to a movie at the theater. My husband on the other hand, had all 4 of his out at 24 and was a baby!!! Granted they were all impacted, but he stayed home from work for 4 days, stayed on vicodin for 2 weeks, ibuprofen for 2 months, and still complained about it 6 months later. I'm so glad I had the babies. :)

When I had mine removed, they came out real easy, however, my daughter had her bottom two removed (they were impacted). She had to eat soft foods for a few days and took Ibuprofen. She said this worked better than the Vicadin the doctor prescribed.

I remember it wasn't real bad but I was drugged up! I would suggest drugs. Can anybody help you with the 2 year old for the day?

Hi N.,
I had all four of mine pulled out at the same time when I was 23 which was 17 years ago. If you've had 3 kids, this will be a piece of cake compared to childbirth:) My experience was that my mouth was sore for a couple of days, so I took Tylenol for the pain. My cheeks swelled up, but that's because my wisdom teeth were bad. I could only eat soft foods like jello, milk shakes, etc. Having the stitches taken out afterwards was uncomfortable, but not painful. The only thing with mine was that the holes in my mouth from the extractions took a whole year to completely heal (bad teeth). Most of my friends who had their wisdom teeth pulled did not take a long time to heal and two of my friends were back at work the very same day they had theirs pulled. It sounds like yours aren't bad, so I wouldn't worry. Plus, I'm sure that the anesthetic that they use now and the pain meds are much better than when I had mine pulled.
I'll say a prayer for you:)
Good Luck,
M.

I have had two bottom wisdom teeth pulled. One was impacted and I had to go to an oral surgeon. That one was not fun. At the time I had two toddlers and a 10 month old. My mom helped me for a few days with the littles. The other one was done with nitrous oxide and novacane. It was not impacted so that one was alot easier. The dentist did give me some pretty powerful pain pills, but I really didn't need them. It's my understanding that the uppers are easier than the lowers. Since yours aren't impacted it shouldn't be too bad. Be sure you don't use a straw to drink anything afterwards. That can cause a dry socket, whatever that means, which I understand causes alot of problems and is very painful. All in all it should be fine since they are just being pulled and you don't have to have real surgery. All the best to you!

Hi N., I just had one pulled last month. I took motrin for pain, swelling, and discomfort for a few days and that did the trick for me. As for foods... anything soft. It doesn't really matter WHAT you eat as long as you eat. Tuna, eggs, yogurt, soup, pudding, ice cream. As long as you are eating every 1-2 hours to keep a good calorie supply in your system. Your body will need extra calories to burn as it heals your mouth so eat frequently. You will probably experience discomfort or tenderness for about ten days. By then your gums should have healed enough that not everything will irritate them. Be sure to check a few times a day to ensure nothing is lodged in the empty place.
Good luck... E.

HI N.,
Although it has been quite a few years since I had mine done. It really was no big deal. Now I had my top ones done one at a time but I felt fine. I didn't even need any pain meds other then Tylenol. I even went out with friends after one of my teeth being pulled. One thing I always did after was to put tea bags over the pulled tooth area. I had heard that this helps to stop the bleeding. You will be fine. Sometimes thinking about things like this is way worse then the actual procedure.

I had 2 of mine cut out at the same time. I had novacain and laughing gas. I went home and took a 4 hour nap and then it was as if nothing had ever happened. My jaw was a little sore from being so wide for so long but it didn't require a special diet and I don't remember taking anything for pain. if yours are most of the way through it will probably be just like getting a regular tooth pulled. like the ohter poster said listen to the don't list. good luck

Get someone to help you with your son Thursday and Friday. You will need to "drug yourself up". As others have mentioned, soft foods.....but rest after surgery is also necessary. I don't remember having much pain or swelling afterwards, but I was numb for about twelve hours after having my impacted teeth out. Yes, yours sounds easier so you may have a mild recovery but be prepared to be totally out of it on Thursday and maybe Friday.
