I was wondering how much daycares run in the Des Moines area for a baby.

What can I do next?

We live in Johnston. We had Sierra , now 9, at what used to be Village Day care that is now Child Serve. They bought it. So it's handicapped and non handicapped together. The infant room is great and the 2-3 year old room is okay. We put Sierra this fall in the KTC program (before and after school). I would recommend the other day care called Open Arms out here. It's religious based but very secure and well run from what I can tell. Babies always cost more $125- 145 a week, the younger they are the less it can be. Do not try !!!! TLC out here. It is bad all the way around. La Petite's are on a management program so that the manager gets a bonus for reducing staff need on a weekly basis. So if the maximun in a room (for example is 15 with 2 staff- then if one child leaves - then the other staff person is sent home for lack of need for that room. So the $$ is more important than the child in my view. Just idea's M.

Hi H.,
I live near the Target in Altoona. I was paying 115.00 a week for a small day care center called Little Squirts. Kathy, the woman who ran it was wonderful, however she had top close as of 10/28 becuse her mother has cancer. I called places everywhere. Alot of the centers had a waiting list for infants. Shining Stars is 160.00 a week. We were at the 8th Street daycare and that 155.00 a week. I was not impressed at all when we did a walk thru and met the director, however I needed something. After 4 days we left. I was very unhappy there. We are now at an inhome daycare and I pay 135.00 a week, but she supplies diapers, and food. (not formula). I hope that helps. Good luck in your search.

Home daycares are about 140/week for a baby, and centers are about 160-180/week. ###-###-#### is the number for Iowa Childcare Resource & Referrals - if you call them, tell them your address, what type of daycare you are looking for, etc... they will e-mail you a list of all the daycares in your area with openings, their phone numbers, if an in-home daycare is licensed or has cats inside, whatever - for free.

Depending on in home day cares to public day cares. Most day cares are ranging for in home day cares anywhere from $90-150.00 and public daycares are likely to be $125-$180.00 it all depends on what you are looking for. Are you going to be moving to Des Moines soon?

I have in in-home day care in Ankeny and charge between 100-115 per week. Rates depend on the hours needed. As long as you supply diapers and formula for your infant. I think that is what others charge too.
