Wii Fit for Me?

Hello Mamas,
I'm wondering if any of you have Wii Fit and if so, how do you like it?
I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, but some weeks I'm lucky to get there once! My body isn't very forgiving during those weeks and I lose momentum instead of weight. I thought this might be a good substitute. I was thinking it also might be a fun family thing...is it?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your input. I see a Wii Fit or EA Active in my near future :)
Possibly a DDR because I LOVE to dance and so do my kids.
Good to see such positive feedback.
Thanks!

I love the Wii Fit! Wii in general is a great way to get up and get exercise and also great as a family activity. Now, it's not as intense as going to the gym can be, but it is a good workout. There are also lots of fun games out there that would be perfect for a night of family fun. "Wario Ware: Smooth Moves" is awesome! So much fun!

I know you wouldn't be using it instead of a gym, so dont listen to people saying you wont lose weight. I love the Wii Fit and i am thinkin about the active thing too, it looks like it is a better workout than the wii. i know there is a running option on the Fit and its kinda nice, and there is also yoga that is fun. I hope you enjoy whichever product you choose!

I bought the Wii fit because I don't have money for a gym membership. I was actually surprised at the variety of activities on there. You can choose from Yoga, Aerobics, Balance Games or Strength Training. I just started using the Wii fit last week, and have already lost 4 lbs! I've been using it once, sometimes twice a day, and like it because you aren't pushed to do something for a certain amount of time. If you only have time for one activity, that's fine. I also saw somewhere that the Balance board is used for some other games, so you might be able to get your exercise from playing other games. Like another person said, it's not as intensive exercise as you would get at the gym, but I think it was well worth the $90 we spent on it!

I don't live near a gym and walking every day wasn't showing me results anymore so I went with a Wii and got Wii Fit. I love it. I usually alternate between strength/Yoga workouts and the aerobics/balance activities. That way I don't get in a rut and my body keeps guessing what I'm going to do next. I try to work out on it at least 4 times a week, but sometimes I do more just because it's fun for me. Definitely worth the investment (which was cheaper than going to the gym for me). My 17 year old son uses it too...and my two year old thinks he is...lol. I know it's helped me on my weight loss journey. :)

I just ordered this for myself last night, but I have a co worker who swears by it. She does it 3-4 times a week and has lost 5 inches from her stomach and 3 inches from her thighs. She said it is great fun and she is getting her son and husband to do it as well.

I personally cannot wait to get mine and get started, my Dr said find something that fits into your schedule, honestly this is all I could find time for.

Good Luck!

L.,

I am also a gym goer - usually 5 times a week. I don't have the wii fit - but I bought the eactive to go along with my Wii and I LOVE it - it's cheaper than the fit also!! It is fun and changes up the workouts enough that you don't get bored and can be challenging. I was having so much fun with it some days I went to the gym and still did the active. Now I usually just do it if I miss the gym - but it is a good way to make up for skipping out on the gym I think. It also depends on how much effort you put into it - but it encourages you to work hard.

G'Morning L., I haven't heard alot of good things about the Wii exerciser. Something to do with the board and balance. Now the Wii games are awesome for everyone. Tennis, Bowling, Golf etc, Car races, fishing games. There are so many everyone will love.

What I enjoy is Salsa & Belling dancing DVDs. They both really give you a work out. * laughing* NO pole necessary ;) Kids love the music also. I think I found them at Barnes & Noble. A 10-15 minute work out daily is awesome.

God Bless

My brother brought one to my parents' house recently. Even my mom has a wii character now! I am still a much bigger fan of getting outside to exercise personally. However, with winter coming on my husband and I have recently ordered one for ourselves. Hopefully it will help keep us motivated on yucky days. Our two year old also thinks some of the activities are funny so eventually I'm sure he'll be doing it also. It has made our family bond as we all laugh and sweat together. Overall I would say it's like anything else. If you actually use it, you will see results.

We love, love, LOVE our Wii Fit board! My daughter is really into the yoga and my son and husband love the ski jump. It is a great family activity, and we truly use it together as a family. There is something for everyone, no matter what age.

Wii Fit also keeps track of how often you use it, which will keep you honest! :)

Word of advice, there are alot of Wii Fit boards in stores now, but once the holidays come, they will be harder to find. It took us a few months to finally get one.

Good luck and have fun!

Love it!My Husband is a firefighter so between that and our regular schedule I was never getting out to work out either.I got a Wii fit in May for my birthday.I not only enjoy that I don't have to find time and a sitter to go workout for an hour but for me it was motivation problem too. With the wii fit I enjoy doing it because it's not like a routine exercise it's a game so it makes it fun to workout!

I have Wii Fit, Gold's Gym Boxing, and EA Active. EA Active is the best by far! It is actually like a real gym workout unlike the Wii Fit. It has a 30 day plan and it also has additional workouts included. You can specify intensity, time, type of activity, and other features. Unlike the Wii Fit, it feels like a truly comprehensive workout. It is not only cheaper, but I feel like it is a much superior game. I guess overall I just don't like the lack of flow from the Wii Fit. The activities are fun, but not motivating for me.

I like our Wii fit. My only problem is getting alone time to workout. I always have "helpers & watchers". My kids always fight me to be on the board. I plan to do more on it this winter. My tried and true form of home-based weight loss plan is my old 80s VHS videos!

Hi L.!
I haven't looked at any of the responses you have gotten, but I wanted to give you a little bit of information...
I am a Fitness Coach and my association does weekly calls to stay on top of the fitness arena. We recently had a call on the Wii fit. ACE (American Council on Exercise) did a study on the Wii fit. They found that while it doesn not burn as many calories as participating in the actual events, it does burn calories.
So, my advice to you...GO FOR IT! I don't recomment it as a total replacement, but it will be a great fill in and/or addition to what you are already doing!
Have fun! In good health, J.

Hi L.,
I'd agree with some of the other posters...I don't think the Wii fit really does much for a good workout. We bought the EA Fit game for the Wii and it's much better. There are different activities you can do and it does a fair amount with resistance bands.

Good luck!

We love our Wii fit...we, meaning my daughters and I. It is great that the more you use it the more levels you unlock. It makes excersizing fun. I would get it and try it and if you don't like it, sell it. Or find a friend that has one a borrow theirs one day or one week to see if you like it. My friend's son loves it too, he was a heavier child and he got hooked on it and slimmed up and he's only 5. Great fun. Hope this helps...Good luck and God Bless.

Hi L.!

I have the Wii Fit, but I much prefer the Wii game called "My Fitness Coach". It is a lot like going to the gym and taking classes. It has an instructor and you can choose different kinds of workouts like aerobics, yoga, lower body, upper body, and flexibility. It tailors your workout to what you need to work on. You can also use weights, a step, and a fitness ball with it. You just tell it what things you have and it will incorporate them into your workout. I love that the workouts change everyday and it will adjust the difficulty of the workouts depending if you feel the workout is too hard, too easy, or just right. I highly recommend it!

We have both Wii Fit and Wii Active (newer). The Fit uses the balance board for most things and we do like it, however, there is a lot of "down" time in it as you have to go back to the menu to choose what to do next after each exercise. I like the step aerobics, but don't have cable, so can't really do more than 20 minutes on the Wii led one. The free step is great, if you have something to watch while you do it.
We got the Wii Active (EA) and have really enjoyed it. You don't have to have the balance board to do it and it comes with a leg strap and a resistance band. I am annoyed with the leg strap as it barely fits on my leg ( I am about 60 lbs overweight) and falls off all the time. Also hard to adjust small enough for my very skinny 7 year old. However I have found that if you just hold the nunchuck on your leg in this position, it works just fine. So that is what I do to get past the frustration. I really love the customized workouts on this, you really can get a great workout and decide how hard and long you want to exercise.
I have heard the Jillian Micheals one is good, but haven't seen it myself. Hope this helps :)

I don't think Wii fit is a substitute for the gym. It's more of a game, in my opinion. I mean it's better than nothing, and it's fun, but it's not going to help you lose weight.

Hi L.,
I really like the Wii fit, it's fun for a second but it will soon not get used. I have something that can help. Have you heard of the body magic. It's a weightloss garment that will drop you 2-3 sizes in 10 minutes and help you to lose weight while wearing. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself on my website www.droputo3sizesin10mins.com . Also Check it out in the news on you tube. It's been on NBC, ABC, Fox2, and numerous other news broadcasts and talk shows.
