Why Are You Dieting?
I'm starting a diet called Game On. It's about better choices and being healthy in mind, body, and spirit. It's not some stupid fad diet. In it you are reinforced for eating veggies, lean meats, etc. and for getting 20 minutes of exercise per day, getting more sleep, etc.
So... I have told some of my friends about it and I continue to get the same question. Why are you dieting? I may have have healthy body mass index, but I could lose 15 pounds and still have an average BMI. Not to mention that I need to begin to make healthier choices. I also have been running for about 9 months and I would like to see how I can get my body to perform when I am putting good, healthy food inside. Food is fuel. I still have a bit of my baby pouch and considering my son is 6 the I had a baby excuse is a bit old!!!
Anyway... I am already SO tired of getting asked, "Why are you dieting?" I could ramble off everything I just said in the above paragraph. I just hate that just b/c I'm not obese I have to justify my choice to healthier living. Maybe I'm being defensive here, but any thoughts on something short and sweet to say when people ask me why I'm dieting?
So What Happened?™
You mamas have some good points!!! I think I may just quit referring to it as a diet! I could refer to it as Game On, a healthy living plan. Sometimes the simplest answer is right on the tip of you nose. Good thoughts Mamas!!!

I have the same thing, people say why you are so skinny already. ok, really I am not and per my Dr. could stand to lose 15-20 lbs to be in healthy range. i used to be more lean muscle and am losing that so I FEEL flabby.
Just call it changing to a healthy lifestyle not a diet....that's really what it is. getting back to eating and getting moderate exercise like we are meant to.
Good for you!

Why are you dieting? = is definitely a compliment, meaning...."You don't need to lose weight."
Have you seen this T-Shirt:
"Dear Lord, If you can't make me skinny, please make my friends fat."
I bet it's slightly heavier woman asking?

Don't call it a diet. Most people think of diets as an extreme change in lifestyle for an extreme and quick result. Your "diet" does not in any way sound like the typical "diet". It sounds like a way of life...it sounds like what everyone SHOULD be doing anyway.
You are doing great!! Keep it up!! Maybe if you change the way you talk about it then you wouldn't get flack from people. You are already looking healthy and exercising so people don't understand your "diet" talk.
Good luck and best wishes...Game On!!!

Don't tell them you're dieting. Tell them you are eating healthier. Problem solved! ;)

Just say, "Im not dieting, Im just trying to be healthier"
People do act annoyed when you are concerned about the things you put in your mouth, because they dont have the disipline to do it themselves. Its not about you when you get negativity about it, its about them.
Good job trying to be healthier!!

First, I think it's a compliment.
Second, why would you need to TELL THEM ALL in the first place I wonder? You make it their business by bringing it up, so of course they are free to say what they will.

Why do you even have to tell anyone? Are you just excited? I don't think people are trying to insult you I think they are complimenting you and telling you that you look good and don't need to diet. I would just say something along the lines of making the inside of your body look as great as the outside.
