Who Is the Better Service??

Hi, we live in an area that is serviced by both Time Warner Cable & Verizon. We currently have Time Warner servicing our TV & Computer, but have not signed up for the phone. Am wanting to make a decision about getting all 3 services bundled together for 1 price but am not sure which way to go. Verizon has their FIOS. Any one out there who has had either company & likes or dislikes their service and why. Also my mother lives in Seattle so do a lot of long distance calling which appears to be an added expense to the "usual Bundling price" of Cable/Internet/Phone.
Thank you in advance for your time & help.

I don't have any experience with Verizon, but we bundled with Time Warner and have been pretty happy with them.

My husband has worked for Verizon installing the FIOS and now works for Time Warner.... We lived in Lewisville for a short period and had the FIOS bundle, it ended up costing way more then quoted and they wouldn't take responsibility, the internet was okay, I had the 15mb download but didn't get any faster then regular DSL, again Verizon wouldn't fix, other then that... I had no issues with outages etc.... we now have Time Warner, not sure of pricing as we get it free because my husband does the installs... I can tell you the internet and phone are great.... TV is good too however the we have glitches as far as the DVR... sometimes it freezes and can be a pain in the butt.... they are working on it, but until then it's annoying.... So far we haven't experienced any outages or downtime. Hope that helps!!

Update.... if you go with Time Warner, make sure you specify you want the new box.... :)

We have had both. TWC is ok. Verizon FIOS was absolutely horrible. My main issue with Verizon was the DVR. The internet and TV reception/selection were great, but their DVRs never worked. They switched the boxes out three times, and finally one employee admitted that it was a widespread problem. Verizon customer service is notoriously bad, even people who find their products satisfactory usually admit service stinks if they do need it. We had major billing issues with them that resulted in my needing to resolve it through the Better Business Bureau.

Not sure about TWC, we have FIOS and have been happy with it. We switched to the tv service once they offered it in our area from DirecTV to save money on taxes etc. We have the whole house DVR and you can't watch HD programming on boxes that don't have HD (the rest of our house) but you can watch everything else you recorded. The DVR is a little slower/more cumbersome to use and not as user friendly as DirecTV's.
We've not had problems with our phone service or internet, internet has never been down, it's not super fast but it's not super slow either. Long distance is included in our phone bundle and I think they give you like $5 off each service you bundle. So $10 off 2 services and $15 off all 3 services. There's a Verizon Experience store in Southlake next to Cafe Express where you can try it all out and get a pretty good idea of how the tv service works.

DONT BUNDLE! They charge you way more services than you use! After moving, we only signed up for TV and Internet and I found magicjack.com! It is a phone service through your internet service. I got it and hooked up our own phone that has extensions all around the house and it really works! It is only $40 a year!! If you and your mom have it, you can talk to each other free any time! It is really great! The only things that I had to discover is that of course my computer has to stay all the time and the little magicjack.com screen has to be on and minimized for it to work. But overall, it is much better than the bundle and much cheaper too! Good luck!

We have verizon FIOS and are happy with it. The picture is excellent and internet fast. We olny have tv and internet bundled and vontage which has free long distance. You might check the bunbles a see if phone w/ long distance in bundle is more than $32. We do not have warner in our area.

Verizone FIOS is amazing! We've had it for three years for our internet, and it has NEVER gone out. It is fast and reliable. We have directv for tv and no landline, so I can't help you w/ the bundle. I can say that we had Time-Warner cable in Fl and it was a NIGHTMARE! It went out all the time, and the crews were terrible. In 5 years and three residences, it went out over 30 times! Only once did I get a person who was polite and fixed it right the first time. That's why we didn't get it when we moved to Denton. Good luck!

When we moved here, we switched to Vonage for our phone and forwent the bundling all together. It was going to be too expensive with all the long distance calling we do.

We have the TIme Warner bundle.

In the beginning there were some glitches with the internet. We have the turbo internet, 1 digital phone line and HDTV. We pay around $140/month. We do have some extras so I know my $ is a little higher.

One thing we learned is that they don't like to spend money by sending reps out unless very necessary. They like to troubleshoot over the phone. If reps come to your home for issues, it costs them $$$$$. SO, our problems went away quickly after we insisted a rep come out here.

We've had no trouble after that.

Good luck

Just saw your post, so sorry about the late response. We've had both. Hated Time Warner. Loved, loved, LOVED Verizon Fios. We didn't bundle with the phone - we opted for phone service through Vonage. But TV, DVR and internet worked wonderfully with Verizon.

We have Verizon and I love it. People comment all the time on how clear our picture is. We have phone, internet, and cable with them.

we're in Plano and have Verizon for TV/Internet, but use Vonage for phone (which does NOT work well if you are needing to fax using it). We used to live in Dallas and had AT&T and I will say that I loved their U-verse service, hands down, better than FIOS, especially because we could record 4 shows at once instead of 2.

Hi C.!

I live in Keller, and have been with Verizon Fios since they premiered here in Keller a few years ago. We are very happy with them. We have our phone, internet and cable all bundled and we get free long distance anywhere in the U.S. We really don't have any complaints about them. Hope that helps you in your decision. I am sorry but I really don't know anything about Time Warner but I guess you have a pretty good idea about them since you are currently with them. Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

Sincerely,

L. Colley

We had Time Warner Cable for quite some time and finally got so tired of service outages and service calls that we switched to AT&T. We actually wanted Verizon Fios, but it isn't offered in our area. Anyway, AT&T is wonderful. We have had only one service call to work out an initial kink and it has been smooth sailing ever since.
