Who Has Stand Type Kitchen mixer...I Need Your Feedback/advice

I am looking to purchase a kitchen aid stand mixer. I am still shocked at the prices of those things! So really, I have two questions: First, are they REALLY worth the money? I have always either used a wooden spoon or my cruddy hand mixer. But, I would like something better. The question is do I need to spend THAT much. I do like to cook and bake and bake a fair amount but I just am nervous about whether I should spend THAT much. Second question, does anyone have one or know someone who doesn't really use theirs and wants to sell it cheap?
I would love to hear from those of you that have one and what kind of deal you were able to get on yours. I have tried the kitchen aid website, amazon, ebay, and craiglist. Do you like your stand mixer? Did you buy a different brand and like it just as well? How long have you had your mixer? Etc. THANKS A BUNCH IN ADVANCE!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you who offered feedback and price pointers! I ended up finding one on amazon.com that was $169.99 after a thirty dollar rebate. I thought it was a great price compared to what was at the stores...sam's club had the same one for $299.99! I also found out that while you get a free subscription to a food & wine magazine that you can opt out of that and receive an additional $12 off! :)
So, after listening to everyone's feedback, reading eopinions on the different brands and models, etc. and calling someone directly at Kitchen Aid I finally got online and bought it. I should get it Monday. I am pretty excited to try it out! :)

Yes the Kitchen Aide mixer is worth it. If you like to do alot of baking or making homemade bread. It makes baking so nicer. And for the price go to Mar-Beck appliance. I got a Pro 6 Quart for only $200. I use to have cheaper mixer and they just don't stand up or have the power you really need. You won't regret getting a Kitchen Aide. And the attachments are nice. Just a side note nothing lease then a 6 Quart for bread and do not place the bowl in Dishwasher.

I LOVE mine! I didn't think it would really make that much of a difference, but I got it for a wedding present. It makes mixing so much easier! I would definatly recommend it!

I have one and love mine. I have several friends and relatives who own them also. We all love ours. If you bake a lot they are definately worth the money. They will last forever. If you are looking for one cheaper, then either look for sales or go to ebay. QVC had them at one time cheaper also, so check the home shopping websites also. My husband got me the professional one and got it on sale for over $100 cheaper than the regular price in the color that I wanted. So keep looking. I highly reccomend them. And when you do get one, get a cover for it, it will keep the dust off and add years to it's life.

Hi Roxanna - I pondered for quite a while before I bought my KitchenAid because of the price. I watched for sales and got mine at Kohls for a decent price and on a weekend where you got $10 Kohls cash for every $50 spent. They have that sale this weekend actually. I love mine and have never regretted it. I had a stand mixer before but it was a cheapy and didn't do nearly as much as my KitchenAid. I love their products as well as Cuisinart. I have decided that when it comes to things I use a lot it is worth it to go with one of those two brands as they last forever. I have heard from friends that the Sunbeam is really good as well and it is cheaper. Using the 20% coupon at Bed Bath ad Beyond is a great idea too. Good luck - D.

I LOVE my Kitchen Aid mixer! I've had mine for probably 15 yrs & all my daughters have one as well. They are completely worth the $. I have had a lot of mixers thru the years & by FAR, this is SO completely worth it. I use it for everything & have a lot of the attachments, which I also use. If you like to cook/bake, you will not regret spending the extra $ to get it. My bread making as well as regular baking has just completely changed since getting one. It just makes it EASY to mix everything. Just an FYI as well...my daughter in law graduated from culinary arts & that's the type of mixer they used in school also. So my vote...YES! Get one & enjoy it for YEARS!!!

I wanted a Kitchen Aide mixer for years, but couldn't justify the money. Well, one year for our anniversary my husband bought me one. I felt really guilty about the price, but he bought it anyway. I absolutly love it! It is so worth the money! I bake so much that now I'm looking at getting another bowl and attachements, so I don't have to stop and wash in between batters. It is a bit heavy so I suggest putting it on your countertop in a corner. Then whenever you want to use it you can just pull it towards you and go. They come in a variety of colors so you can match either your decor or your personality. Plus they last forever...mine is five years old and looks and works just like new.
Enjoy and happy baking!

I have had a Artisan Kitchen Aid Mixer for 5 years now and I love it. I do a lot of baking and cake decorating, so I truly feel I got my money's worth out of it. I bought mine at Bed Bath & Beyond using the 20% off coupon. This made a big difference with the price. I have a friend who has a Sunbeam mixer and loves it just the same (and spent less than half the money at Walmart). I figured this is an investment for something I will keep forever. Besides Kitchen Aid now has an attachment that turns your mixer into an ice cream machine!
