Which Is Better?

I am deciding which hospital I want to deliver my baby at and I would love any input from moms who have delivered at Harris Methodist in Fort Worth or Baylor in Grapevine. I have three children but they were all born in California so I have never had any experiences with the hospitals here. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I delivered both my babies at Arliington Memorial, which was wonderful so I can't comment on which of these choices is better. My advice would be to go with whichever one has a NICU just in case you end up needing it. Not all hospitals do. Second criteria would be which one can guarantee you a birthing suite where you get to stay in the same room, same bed the whole time you're there. Good luck!

I delivered at Baylor, and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I had a wonderful experience, and I absolutely loved the staff!! Good luck, and you'll probably be happy wherever you go.

I delivered both of my two at Baylor Grapevine (Dec 03 and Nov 05)and had great experiences both times. The nurses in the mom/baby unit were great about making sure that they scheduled times for everyone to come in around the same time to check vitals/ check the babies/ etc... so I could get a lot of rest before going home. We also had to move rooms one of the times during my stay and the nurse packed everything up and put it in the exact same place in the new room so we didn't have to do anything. It was very clean and they seem to have great facilities and really cared about making me feel comfortable. They also have a NICU that I think is fairly new. I have never been to Harris Methodist, but I have a friend who has. She never had any problems there to my knowledge, it is just a hard drive if you have to go during high traffic times.

I delivered my son at Baylor in Grapevine and they were excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facility was very clean and pleasant as well. My sister-in-law delivered her son at Harris and she loved it there too. I think either will be a good choice. You might have to just tour each one and decide which will work better for you. You also might want to consider the best or shortest route to get there from your home during peak traffic times. I-35 can be a bear sometimes!

Good Luck! :)

I delivered at Harris FW, c-section, 4-day stay. When I have another, I will reconsider, only because my husband was SO uncomfortable at Harris. He slept on what amounted to a 3 foot wide board with a 1 inch foam pad on it. It was not at all pleasant for him. I was not fond of the odors in there either, but I am hyper-sensitive to smells. They said they were going to remodel, and if they have since January '05, then we would probably go back there. My current OB/GYN only has privileges at Harris, so I would have to find a new doc in order to deliver at Baylor.

Let me know what you decide, it may help me too. :)

Best wishes!

I LOVED Baylor Grapevine! Everyone was so nice and accommodating, the nurses all had great bedside manners and I have no complaints. When I get pregnant again, I hope we are still in this area so I can go there again. Even better....my doctor was just accross the parking lot.

First time mother to a wonderful little angel [8 months] and an awesome husband.

I delivered my son at Baylor Grapevine in May 2006. They were all very wonderful people. My Dr. was Coulter-Smith, but she was out the day I delivered and I had the on call Dr. She was also wonderful. I didn't hesitate one bit with the care I was getting. They made me feel at home and as comfortable as possible.

I've been to Harris downtown three times and had a great experience each time. We've even experienced the NICU, which was great. It's reassuring to me that Cook's was next door, so you have the best of all specialties available to you if anything goes wrong and your baby needs help. I've known people who didn't have their baby in a hospital with a NICU, so the baby was transferred to another hospital and the mother was forced to stay at least 24 hours before they could see their baby - yikes! Look them up on the web and sign up to take a tour of each. My other suggestion is to pick the one closest to your home. I have really really quick labors, and it's nice to know I don't have to drive far, especially if I had to take myself for some reason - I wouldn't want to sit in traffic. Good luck!

Harris by far. I delivered my first at Harris, and the best thing if there is a problem with the baby then Cooks is right next door. That was just peace of mind for me. Anyway, good luck in choosing.

HI, R.! Where in CA are you from? My first daughter was born in Walnut Creek, CA (Northern CA). We moved here and I got preggo shortly after, so I know what you are going through. I have never been inside Harris Methodist, so I don't really have an opinion. We deliverd at Baylor Grapevine with Dr. Julia Flowers. Both she and the staff were great! IF we have another, I will deliver there again. Dr. Flowers in great, too if you need an ob/gyn. My only complaint about Baylor was that they had to take the baby out every morning for tests, etc. Nothing could be done in the room. Even right after delivery, they took the baby and my husband to the nursery to wash her, weigh her, etc. With our first, everything was done in the labor/delivery/recovery room and once we moved to a post-natal room, everything was done in there, too. But, other than that...it was great! My husband went home to stay with our oldest, as I'm sure yours will, so the sleeping accomodations for him didn't matter and I have no idea what they are like. Good luck to you!

I delivered at Baylor Grapevine w Julia Flowers. She was the best Dr!!! But I was not that impressed with the hospital, nurses were ok, some were excellent and some were ok, depending on the shift. I called them to clean my room the morning after I had baby and it took them till that afternoon to do it...Also my mom came in and got me up to get a shower, nurses never offered?? Good Luck!!

I delievered at Harris Southwest in Fort Worth and LOVED it. My OBGYN delievers there and at Harris Downtown. I was very picky to have no guy doctors/nurses and my OBGYN has an all female staff if that matters at all to you. Also I loved that unless I needed a c-section everything was done right there in my own private room. I am defiantly going to Harris again.

Hi R..

I had both of my sons at Baylor Grapevine (Oct. 2003 and March 2006). Both stays at the hospital were positive. The nurses are very attentive and personable and the facility is very clean. My sister-in-law had her two children there also (Nov. 2001 and Oct. 2004) and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. In addition, I have a friend who delivered her first child there in May and was very pleased with Baylor. The food isn't too bad either! ;-)

Hi R.,

I delivered at Baylor in Grapevine in March, 2005. It was a nice hospital and overall, my experience was good. However, as another mom posted, I had to ask about taking a shower - none of the nurses told me when I could.

I had a wonderful experience and the nurses were all very nice and listened to any concerns I had with pain after giving birth. They were very sympathetic and attentive!
