Which Highchair and Carseat Are the Best?
I have to buy my first highchair for my 7 month old daughter. I would love some suggestions on which ones are good and bad. I also have to purchase a carseat soon because my daughter is growing out of her infant seat. I don't want to spend a lot of either item.

So What Happened?™
I want to thank everyone for the information on the items. People had some good suggestions and we want to figure out if we want a full size highchair or just a booster seat (as some people suggested). We also have to figure out which of the carseats to get. I appreciate all the input on the different kinds. The important thing is safety and then cost. Thanks again!

L., please don't spend money on a highchair. They are way too expensive. I purchased a Safety 1st Easy Care Booster Seat. I began using it at age 7 months for my daughter. It is priced at $14.99 at Target. It is portable and it attached securely to any chair in the house. I even take it when we go to Grandma's house and we use it at the dinner table. Go online to http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_11/601-###-... and you will see it. It is a great buy and much more convenient than a high chair.

Review the "Baby Bargains" book at your local bookstore. It will tell you which is the best for the price range you would like to spend. I bought the Britax Roundabout and LOVE it. It is very easy to adjust the strap length which is important when you constantly switch from bulky winter coat to light weight jackets, etc. The Roundabout is good for smaller cars if your child is still facing backwards. The taller child seats will not fit facing backwards. We also have the Fisher Price Healthy Care high chair. The vinyl is easy to wipe clean, the castors are great for moving around, and the extra trays are great b/c they fit in the dishwasher. Good luck!

We love our Britax Roundabout car seats. I believe they are still the safest out there for this stage, and they are very durable, comfortable, and easy to install.

Infant car seat: Graco Snug Ride
Once my daughter outgrew that about 1 yr., we got the Britex Roundabout which is WITHOUT A DOUBT the best one out there. Many of my friends have others, and this one doesn't come close to the level of safety, comfort, and durability.
Highchair: Can't really help too much on this one b/c we got lured into thinking that the Peg Perego was the best one on the market and we HATED it. It was nice that it folded up and was vinyl, but it was so clunky (the tray was so heavy!)and hard to clean. I would NEVER suggest this one to anyone. Total waste of money.

Couple things to consider with the highchair....do you have a lot of space or do you need one that folds up?? If you would like one that is easy to keep clean and fold up - I would recommend the Graco fold up one...I can't think of the name of it right now...but it has a lot of nice qualities and it folds up...my son loved it.
Also car seats....I can't tell you how important it is to get one that is safe. I tried to go the inexpensive route and got a Eddie Bauer seat...for toddlers 20 to 65 lbs. about $120.00 - however I had a hard time unbuckling my son....sometimes it would take me 30seconds to a minute to press the button correctly for it to release the buckle. All I could think of was what if I was in an accident and the car was on fire and I wouldn't be able to get my baby out. Anyway I told my husband, I don't care what the cost is I'm buying the #1 toddler car seat...Britaxx Marathon...I think is the style...I love it...yes it was $269.99 plus tax. But I have no problems with the buckles...it's easy to get him in and out of it...it's very comfortable and he never complains. Plus it sits up a lot higher than the Eddie Bauer seat - which allows my son to look out the window and when we drive around he points to trees, leaves, bushes...especially now that they are turning colors...I love it and so does he. All I can say is that it was worth every penny, and my peace of mind. Good Luck!!!

We LOVE the Fisher Price Healthy Care high chair. The book "Baby Bargains Secrets" gave it an "A" and very high ratings and surprisingly, it is not that expensive. We were very happy with it. As for a car seat, again, the Baby Bargains book gave the Triumph Evenflo an "A" and we love it. We were originally going to buy one of the Britax brands, but when we put our daughter in it in the store it looked like she was going to be outgrowing it within the year. Plus, it was much more expensive than the Evenflo. We have been very happy with the Evenflo and would definitely recommend it. Hope this helps!

I have to disagree with Carrie U. We have the Eddie Bauer high chair and hate it. We're seriously considering buying a different high chair, even after spending over $100 on this one. Our child is not comfortable in it. I feel that the seat is way too small and that she will outgrow it before she turns two (she is almost 10 months old now and at 21 pounds seems to barely fit in the seat). The three-point safety straps fit awkwardly and don't effectively restrain the child. We don't even bother straping her in the seat. We bought it because we liked the way it looked, but I think there are much better chairs out there for the money.
We splurged on the Britax Boulevard car seat and LOVE it. It's big and expensive, but in my opinion well worth the extra money. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the Britax car seats.
